Steering Wheel (Remove and Replace)

Removal
- Remove the driver's air bag (refer to procedure).
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels point straight ahead.

Use a 10 mm hex socket to remove and discard the patch bolt that secures the steering wheel to the column (torque 80 Nm).

Before removing the steering wheel, mark the steering wheel relative position to the column.
NoteTake note of the elongated splines on the upper and lower center of the steering wheel. Mark the steering column shaft relative to the indicated steering wheel splines.

Remove the steering wheel from the vehicle.
CAUTIONDo not turn the clockspring when removing the steering wheel.
- Tape the clockspring to prevent rotation. Do not allow the clockspring to rotate.
Installation
- Remove the tape from the clockspring.

Match the elongated splines with the marks that were made to the steering column, and then install the new steering wheel.
NoteWhen performed correctly, toe adjustment is not necessary.

Use a 10 mm hex socket to install a new patch bolt that secures the steering wheel to the column (torque 80 Nm).
- Install the driver's air bag (refer to procedure).
