Receiver Dryer and Desiccant (Remove and Replace)

Warning
HFO-R1234yf and R134a are considered
hazardous liquids and if handled incorrectly can cause serious injury. Suitable
protective clothing, consisting of face and eye protection, safety glass, face shield,
heat-proof gloves, chemical resistant gloves, rubber boots and apron or waterproof
overalls must be worn when carrying out operations on the air conditioning
system.
Note
The desiccant bag in the receiver dryer is a serviceable item and must be
replaced every 2 years, whenever the system is opened to ambient air for an extended
time, or when an A/C system leak has been fixed.
Note
The desiccant is located
in the RH condenser.
Removal
- Position the vehicle on a lift but do not lift it at this time.

Recover the A/C refrigerant from
the vehicle. See A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace).
WarningMake sure there is no pressure in the A/C system before performing the following steps. Failure to do so may result in damage to components and/or personal injury.NoteWhile the HVAC machine is recovering the refrigerant, perform the following:

Clean the area around the plug before removal.
WarningPlease ensure to wear the Face Shield throughout the entire process to prevent foreign objects from flying out.

Remove and discard the plug and
the desiccant bag.
CAUTIONRemove and discard O-rings.
Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
CAUTION
Install a new
desiccant bag and a new plug (torque 12 Nm) immediately to prevent ingress of dirt
and moisture.
Note
Do not reuse
the plug.
- Perform a system vacuum and leak check. See A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace).

While the HVAC machine is running
the vacuum and leak check, do the following:
- Reinstall the underhood aprons.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Charge the system with refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant Recovery and Recharge (Remove and Replace).
- Perform a cooling system thermal test. See Cooling System - Thermal Test.
