Shaft - Steering Column - Intermediate Upper (Remove and Replace)

Correction Code 32011202

Removal

  1. Remove the driver's side footwell cover. See Assembly - Cover - Footwell - Driver's (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the nut and bolt that secure the lower intermediate shaft to the upper intermediate shaft (torque 50 Nm).

    CAUTION
    Replace all Patchbolt(s).
  3. Disconnect the lower intermediate shaft from the slot in the upper intermediate shaft.
  4. Remove the bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column (torque 30 Nm).
  5. Release the upper intermediate shaft from the column shaft.
  6. Release the clips (x4) that secure the steering shaft seal to the bulkhead.
  7. Remove the upper intermediate shaft.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Replace all nylon-insert locknuts.

CAUTION
Replace all patchbolt(s).
  1. Ensure that the upper intermediate shaft to column marks align correctly.
  2. Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
  4. Calibrate the steering rack, using Toolbox 3:

    Note
    Steering rack calibration is only required if the vehicle is equipped with a Bosch type steering rack.
    1. Select the Actions tab and search for "Bosch EPAS Calibration".
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_EPAS_X_CALIBRATIONSearch for routine in ToolboxChassis, and then click the link of the routine.
    3. Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.

      Note
      After calibrating EPAS, drive the vehicle for a minimum of 5 minutes before returning the vehicle to the customer.
  5. Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
