Steering Column (Remove and Replace)
Correction Code 32051902
Removal
- Make sure that the front road wheels are in the straight ahead position.
- Remove the driver's side lower dash trim. See Trim - Dash - Driver's Side - Lower (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the steering controller module. See Module - Steering Column Control (Remove and Replace).

Disconnect the steering column motor harness connectors (x2).
CAUTIONTake care not to damage component(s).
- Mark the upper intermediate shaft position relative to the column.

Remove the bolt that secures the upper intermediate shaft to the steering column
(torque 30 Nm).

Working from the driver's
footwell, remove the bolts that secure the steering column to the IP carrier
bracket:
- Vehicles built before April 11, 2016: Upper and lower fasteners - torque 30 Nm
- Vehicles built on or after April 11, 2016: Upper fasteners - torque 30 Nm, lower fasteners - torque 17 Nm
- Release the steering column from the upper intermediate shaft and remove the steering column from the vehicle.
Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
CAUTIONReplace all nylon-insert locknuts.CAUTIONReplace all patchbolt(s).
- Make sure that the upper intermediate shaft to column marking aligns correctly.

Calibrate the steering rack, using Toolbox 3:
NoteSteering rack calibration is only required if the vehicle is equipped with a Bosch type steering rack.

- Select the Actions tab and search for "Calibrate Steering Column".
- Select the ODIN routine PROC_SUN_X_CALIBRATE-STEERING-COLUMNSearch for routine in ToolboxCalibrate Steering Column, and then click the link of the routine.
- Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- Perform a Lock To Lock-Angle test. See Lock To Lock-Angle Test.
