Sensor - Light/Rain (Vehicles without Autopilot and with 1st Generation Autopilot) (Remove and Replace)

10200602 Vehicles with 1st Generation Autopilot

This procedure applies to vehicles equipped without Autopilot hardware and 1st generation Autopilot hardware only. For vehicles with 2nd generation Autopilot hardware, refer to procedure 10200702 (refer to procedure).

Removal

  1. Remove components for access:
  2. Disconnect the light/rain sensor electrical connector.
  3. Unlatch the spring clip from the plastic tab on the windshield bracket on each side of the light/rain sensor.
  4. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Note
The light/rain sensor is a one time use component. If the rain/light sensor is removed from the windshield, a new sensor must be installed.

Clean the affected areas before installation.

CAUTION
Do not touch the adhesive on the new rain/light sensor.
  1. Inspect the mounting bracket for excess adhesive. If necessary, use a knife or razor blade to remove any excess adhesive around the inner edge of the bracket.
  2. Clean the glass surface before installing the sensor.
  3. Test the rain sensor for proper operation:
    1. Sit in the driver's seat.
    2. Set the wipers to the 1st or 2nd intermittent position.
    3. Have an assistant spray the windshield with water.
    4. Check that the wipers sweep when water is sprayed in front of the sensor.
  4. Test the light sensor for proper operation:
    1. Sit in the driver's seat.
    2. On the touchscreen, set the headlights to Auto.
    3. Have an assistant shine a bright light at the sensor.
    4. Check that the touchscreen changes from night to day brightness.
  5. If equipped with Autopilot hardware, adjust the forward facing camera (refer to procedure).
