ABS Modulator Assembly (Remove and Replace)

Warning
If the vehicle has air suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and supporting the vehicle.

Removal

  1. Remove the underhood storage unit for access (refer to procedure).
  2. Release the brake pipes (x6) from the ABS modulator (torque M10 14 Nm, M12 23 Nm).

    Plug pipe connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.

    Note
    Place suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.
  3. Remove the front skid plate (refer to procedure).
  4. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
  5. Remove the nuts (x2) that secure the ABS modulator to the damper bracket rubber mountings (torque 9 Nm).
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Release the ABS modulator from the rubber mounting.
  8. Remove the ABS modulator from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

CAUTION
Replace all patchbolt(s).
  1. Bleed the brakes (refer to procedure).
  2. Reinstall the latest vehicle firmware, or update the firmware if not the latest. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen or Firmware Update.
  3. Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  4. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
  5. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions tab and search for "ESP Configuration".
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_ESP_X_ESP-CONFIGSearch for routine in ToolboxESP ConfigurationChassis / Brakes - ESP Config, and then click the link of the routine.
    3. Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
