Control Arm - Upper - Front - LH (1st Generation) (RHD) (RWD) (Remove and Replace)
Correction Code 31014402
This procedure is only for RHD RWD vehicles built through April 10,
2016. Use the standard LH upper front control arm procedure for other
vehicles.
Note
These instructions are reused from the RH LHD version of this
procedure. Instructions for RH parts are applicable to the LH RHD
version.
Warning
If the vehicle has air
suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and
supporting the vehicle.
Removal
- Position the vehicle in preparation for raising it, but keep the vehicle at ground level at this time. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift.
- Vehicles without air suspension: Put the vehicle in "Tow" mode.
- Open the hood.
- Power off the vehicle from the touchscreen.
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).

Remove the shock tower cover.

Release the cabin filter cover and the RH side of cowl screen panel.
Note2x tabs, 2x push clips. Secure cowl panel onto strut.

Remove the bolts (x2) that attach
the front HVAC filter housing to the body, and then remove the filter
housing..
- Remove the 12V auxiliary battery. See Battery - Auxiliary - 12V (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the RH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Remove the RH front wheel arch liner louver. See Louver - Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Remove the RH front wheel arch liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).

Disconnect the RH front ride height sensor connector.

Remove the nut that attaches the
RH front ride height sensor to the upper control arm, and then remove the ride
height sensor from the control arm.
NoteUse a 9mm wrench to counter hold the ball joint pin while loosening or tightening the lock nut.

Remove and discard the nut that
attaches the RH front wheel speed sensor bracket to the body.

Release the clips of the RH front
air line.
-
Remove the bolt that attaches the
brake jounce hose bracket to the RH air spring module.
-
Remove the nut that attaches the
RH knuckle to the upper control arm ball joint
NoteHold the bolt in place to prevent turning while removing the nut. Discard the nut after removal.

Disconnect the RH knuckle from
the upper control arm.
NoteWhile holding the upper control arm to the ball joint, slide the bolt out of the top of the knuckle. This will release the knuckle from the upper control arm ball joint. Support the knuckle as the ball joint is released.

Remove the nut and bolt that
attach the RH front air spring module to the front lower aft link.
NoteUse a pry bar to release the tension from the air spring module to the control arm.

Remove the nuts (x3) that attach
the RH front air spring module to the vehicle.
NoteUse one hand to hold the air spring module before completely removing the last nut. Use a step stool as needed.

Lower the RH front air spring
module.
NoteTake care not to damage the air line and brake hose.
-
Remove the bolts (x2) and nut
(x1) that attach the RH front upper control arm to the vehicle.
NoteDiscard the nyloc nut after removal.
Installation
-
Install the bolts (x2) and new
nyloc nut (x1) that attach the new RH front upper control arm to the
vehicle.
NoteTorque at a later step.

Put the ride height tool onto the
RH front upper control arm and body.
-
Torque the RH front upper control
arm bolts (x2) and nut to 68 Nm.
- Remove the ride height tool from the RH front upper control arm.
-
Re-position the RH front air
spring module.
-
Install the nuts (x3) that attach
the RH front air spring module to the vehicle (toque 39 Nm).
NoteUse a step stool as needed

Install the bolt and nut that
attach the RH front air spring module to the front lower aft link (torque 140
Nm).
-
Install the bolt that attaches
the RH knuckle to the upper control arm.
NoteSeat the upper control arm ball joint into the knuckle, and the slide the bolt through the knuckle to hold it in place. The bolt should slide through the knuckle towards the front of the vehicle on installation.

Install the nut that attaches the
RH upper control arm ball joint to the RH front knuckle (torque 60 Nm).
NoteInstall a new patch nut. Hold the bolt in place to prevent it from turning while installing the nut.

Install the bolt that attaches
the jounce hose bracket to the RH air spring module (torque 7 Nm).
NoteMake sure to align the tab with the hole in the air spring module.

Install the clips of the RH front
air line.

Install the nut that attaches the
RH front ride height sensor to the RH front upper control arm (torque 7 Nm).
NoteUse a 9mm wrench to counter hold the ball joint pin while tightening the lock nut.

Connect the RH front ride height
sensor connector.
-
Install the nut that attaches the
RH front wheel speed sensor bracket to the body (torque 4 Nm).
- Install the RH front wheelhouse liner. See Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH front wheel arch liner louver. See Louver - Wheel Arch Liner - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
- Install the RH front wheel. See Wheel Assembly (Remove and Install).
- Install the 12V auxiliary battery. See Battery - Auxiliary - 12V (Remove and Replace).

Install the nuts (x4) that attach
the rear HVAC filter housing and rubber HVAC intake drain diverter (torque 6
Nm).
-
Attach the edge clips (x2) that
attach the HV cable to the HVAC filter housing.
- Connect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
-
Install the front HVAC filter
housing.

Install the bolts (x2) that
attach the front HVAC filter housing (torque 1.5 Nm).
-
Attach the RH side of the cowl
screen panel and cabin filter cover.
-
Install the RH shock tower
cover.
- Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).

Remove the vehicle from the lift
and deactivate Jack Mode through the touchscreen.
- Refer to the Alignment Requirement tables to determine whether an EPAS alignment check (EC) or four wheel alignment check (AC) is necessary. If performed, add the alignment check/adjust as a separate activity. See Alignment Requirement - Suspension.
