Base Assembly - Front Passenger's Seat (Remove and Replace)

  • 2024-12-10: Added mini-tilt motor configuration information.

Removal

  1. Remove the passenger's seat assembly (refer to procedure).
  2. Place the seat on a clean work surface.
  3. Remove the screws (x2) that secure the inner side cover to the seat (torque 1 Nm).
  4. Carefully release the inner side cover from the retaining bracket.
  5. Remove the screws (x2) that secure the outer side cover to the seat (torque 1 Nm).
  6. Pull the side cover away from the seat and disconnect the electrical connectors (x3).
  7. Remove the outer side cover.
  8. Turn the seat over to access the bottom of the assembly.
  9. Disconnect the seat heater element connector.
  10. Release the J-clips (x2) that secure the fabric on the rear of the seat to the flex mat.
  11. Disconnect the lumbar connector.
  12. Move all harnesses out of the working area.
  13. Turn the seat over to the normal seating position.
  14. On both sides of the seat, remove and discard the bolts (x2) that secure the seat base to the seat back (torque 32 Nm).
  15. Lift the seat back off of the seat base and set aside on a soft, clean surface.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Ensure that all harnesses are routed correctly.
  1. Replacement front seat assemblies and seat cushion frame assemblies procured after June 2024 are equipped with a newly-designed Tesla "mini-tilt" motor, and replacing these parts (or the tilt motor itself) might require a configuration change. Review the configuration information in the table and perform the following substeps if a configuration update is needed.
    1. Access the Vehicle Configuration section of the Infotainment Dashboard. See Gateway Configuration (Display and Change).
    2. Update cfg_frontSeattype according to the combination of tilt motors described in the table.
  2. North American vehicles: Perform an OCS re-zero calibration (refer to procedure).
