Bleed or Flush Procedure - System (Remove and Replace)

Procedure
Special tools required for this procedure:

- Fill the pressure bleeder from a new brake fluid container.
- Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure).
- Open the hood.
- Remove the center underhood apron (refer to procedure).
- Clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir, and then remove the brake fluid reservoir cap.
- Top off the brake fluid reservoir, if necessary.
- Install the pressure bleeder on the brake fluid reservoir.
- Set the pressure on the pressure bleeder to 30 psi.
- Remove all 4 wheels (refer to procedure).
- Lower the vehicle to a comfortable height.
- Make sure that the drive rail is on.
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
- Remove the bleeder covers (x2) from the LH front brake caliper.

Install the brake fluid catching
bottle to the LH front brake caliper outer bleed screw nipple, and then loosen the
bleed screw.
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Brake-Bleed" into the search field, click PROC_ESP_FRONT-L-REAR-R_BRAKE-BLEEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FL-RR, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Tighten the outer bleed screw (torque 18 Nm).
- Repeat steps 15 through 17 on the inner bleed screw.
- Install the bleeder covers (x2) onto the LH front brake caliper.
- Remove the bleeder covers (x2) from the RH front brake caliper.
- Install the brake fluid catching bottle to the RH front brake caliper outer bleed screw nipple, and then loosen the bleed screw.
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Brake-Bleed" into the search field, click PROC_ESP_FRONT-R-REAR-L_BRAKE-BLEEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FR-RL, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Tighten the outer bleed screw (torque 18 Nm).
- Repeat steps 21 through 23 on the inner bleed screw.
- Install the bleeder covers (x2) onto the RH front brake caliper.
- Remove the bleeder covers (x2) from the RH rear brake caliper.
- Install the brake fluid catching bottle to the RH rear brake caliper outer bleed screw nipple, and then loosen the bleed screw.
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Brake-Bleed" into the search field, click PROC_ESP_FRONT-L-REAR-R_BRAKE-BLEEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FL-RR, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Tighten the outer bleed screw (torque 18 Nm).
- Repeat steps 27 through 29 on the inner bleed screw.
- Install the bleeder covers (x2) onto the RH rear brake caliper.
- Remove the bleeder covers (x2) from the LH rear brake caliper.
- Install the brake fluid catching bottle to the LH rear brake caliper outer bleed screw nipple, and then loosen the bleed screw.
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Brake-Bleed" into the search field, click PROC_ESP_FRONT-R-REAR-L_BRAKE-BLEEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Bleed FR-RL, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Tighten the outer bleed screw (torque 18 Nm).
- Repeat steps 33 through 35 on the inner bleed screw.
- Install the bleeder covers (x2) onto the LH rear brake caliper.
- Remove the brake pressure bleeder from the vehicle.
- Check the brake fluid level and top it off, if necessary.
- Reinstall the brake reservoir cap.

In Toolbox 3,
click the Actions tab, type "Pressure-Burnished" into the
search field, click TEST_BRAKE_X_STIFFNESS-TEST-PRESSURE-BURNISHEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Stiffness Test,
click Run, and allow the routine to
complete.
NoteIf the stiffness test fails, repeat the procedure from step 14.
- If another procedure required a brake system bleed or flush, return to that procedure now.
- Once all Toolbox 3 routines have been completed, disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Install all 4 wheels (refer to procedure).
- Install the center underhood apron (refer to procedure).
- Close the hood.
- Perform a road test using a series of aggressive stops to make sure there is proper pedal feel and brake performance.
