Cover - Back Rest - Driver Seat (Model 3 Seat) (Remove & Replace)

- Open both doors on LH side
-
Open hood
NoteUsing MCU touchscreen > Controls > Frunk Trunk
-
Remove rear underhood apron
Note8x clips
-
Remove LH underhood apron
Note9x clips
-
Remove RH underhood apron
Note9x clips
-
Release drainage hoses from HEPA filter inlet duct
Note2x hoses
-
Remove clips securing HEPA filter inlet duct to cowl panel
Note3x push clips
-
Remove HEPA filter inlet duct
Note2x clips on HEPA filter
-
Remove HEPA filter outlet duct from vehicle
NoteLift up, pull towards front of vehicle, then rotate clockwise
- Move LH front seat backward
-
Remove LH front seat front fasteners
Note2x patch bolts, T47P, 33.5 Nm, Discard after removal
- Move LH front seat forward
-
Remove LH front seat rear fasteners
Note2x patch bolts, T47P, 33.5 Nm, Discard after removal
-
Adjust position of LH front seat for easy removal
NoteMove seat to middle of track at most upright position with seat fully up off floor
-
Power down vehicle using MCU
NoteControls > E-brake & Power Off > Power off
-
Disconnect 12V negative terminal and First Responder Loop
Note1x nut, 10mm, 5 Nm, 1x connector, Wait at least 2 minutes before disconnecting modules or HV components
-
Disconnect LH front seat harness
Note1x connector
-
Remove LH front seat from vehicle
NoteRecommend assistance, Use caution to not damage other components
-
Use a pick to disengage the outboard headrest retaining spring
Note1x retaining spring, Depress the material around the headrest post to expose the release clip
-
Use a pick to disengage the inboard headrest retaining spring
Note1x retaining spring, Depress the material around the headrest post to expose the release clip
-
Remove the headrest from seat
NoteRemove by pulling straight up out of seat back
-
Release toe kick straps from both sides of interior seat base
Note2x hook clips
-
Remove the seat back shell base assembly from seat back frame
Note6x clips, Start at the top of the seat and pull the shell away from the frame, When the side clips are free, pull the bottom and carefully roll the bottom tabs out of the slots, If pulled straight out, the clips on the seat back can break off

Remove the lower flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the trim straight up, off of the retaining tabs to release
-
Remove the upper flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the lower section of trim away from the retaining tab to release, then pull the trim straight up off of the upper retaining tab
-
Remove the lower flap covering the inboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the trim straight up, off of the retaining tabs to release
-
Remove the upper flap covering the inboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the lower section of trim away from the retaining tab to release, then pull the trim straight up off of the upper retaining tab
-
Remove clips securing the seat upholstery to the seat back frame
Note7x clips, To release, rotate the clips off of the frame from the inside out, Seventh clip is located tucked beneath top center upholstery clip

Pull the seat upholstery away from the air bag to gain access to the air bag electrical connector
-
Disconnect LH front seat air bag
Note1x connector, Pull black collar down to release connector
-
Remove the bolt that attaches the bottom of the lumbar support to the seat
assembly.NoteThe bolt is located below the lumbar ECU. Removing this bolt allows ease of access for the following step.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket
-
Remove nuts securing 1st row side air bag to seat back frame
Note2x nyloc nuts, 10mm, 5.4 Nm, Discard after removal
-
Pull the air bag and fasteners away from the seat frame
CAUTIONDo not remove the airbag from the airbag chute.

Place the front seat in a position to gain access to the bottom of the seat
NoteProtect seat cushion from damage
-
Remove zip tie securing harnesses to spring mat
-
Disconnect the seat heater connector
Note1x connector, 1x clip, Remove connector from spring mat clip
-
Remove the seat back harness connector from the seat bottom
Note1x connector, 1x fir tree clip
-
Return seat to upright position
-
Remove the seat back trim and foam
assembly from the seat back frame.
NoteStart by pulling the bottom of the seat trim away from the seat frame, Ensure the heater harness and the trim is clear of the frame, Lift straight up on the sides of the trim, moving the trim from side to side to free it from the frame

Slide the airbag chute with the airbag
still inside through the seatback foam, and then carefully remove the airbag from the
airbag chute.
CAUTIONMake sure that the driver side airbag mounting studs do not catch in the holes of the airbag chute.CAUTIONHandle the airbag with extreme care when removing it from the airbag chute. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.

Remove upholstery from seat back cushion
NoteUpholstery held on to cushion by velcro, Gently pull upholstery inch by inch from seat back starting lower seat back working your way up to upper seat back, Velcro can tear off cushion

Install upholstery to the seat back rest cushion
NoteStart at the upper seat back working your down to lower seat back, Massage Velcro in as you go
-
Install the driver side airbag into the
airbag chute, and then slide the airbag chute with the airbag inside through the slot in
the seat back foam.
CAUTIONMake sure that the driver side airbag mounting studs extend out of the holes of the chute.CAUTIONHandle the airbag with extreme care when installing it into the airbag chute. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.NoteRefer to the following video for proper care when installing the driver side airbag into the airbag chute, and when installing the chute through the seat foam.

Install seat back cushion to seat back frame
NoteStart by sliding the foam trim straight onto the seat back frame, Ensure the posts for the headrests engage the seat back foam, Ensure the heater harness and lower trim that engages the frame are pushed through to the back side of the frame, Ensure that both sides of the seat back cushion overlap the seat back frame

Install the air bag studs into the seatback frame
NoteThe studs should line up with the two round holes, the elongated hole is not used for this part
-
Install nuts securing 1st row side air bag to seat back frame
Note2x nyloc nuts, 10mm, 5.4 Nm, Install new nutsCAUTIONDo not use impact tools to tighten the nuts

Install the bolt that attaches the bottom of the lumbar support to the seat
assembly.NoteThe bolt is located below the lumbar ECU.Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
- 10 mm socket

Connect LH front seat air bag
Note1x connector
-
Install seat back upholstery clips retaining trim to the frame
Note7x clips
-
Rotate the seat to gain access to the underside of the seat
NoteProtect seat cushion from damage
-
Install the seat back harness connector to the seat bottom
Note1x connector, 1x fir tree clip
-
Connect the seat heater harness and secure to spring mat clip
Note1x connector, 1x clip, secure connector to spring mat clip
-
Rotate the seat back to the upright position
-
Install the upper flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the flap over the metal tangs to secure
-
Install the lower flap covering the outboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the flap over the metal tangs to secure
-
Install the upper flap covering the inboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the flap over the metal tangs to secure
-
Install the lower flap covering the inboard corner of the seat back frame
NotePull the flap over the metal tangs to secure
-
Install the seat back shell base assembly to seat back frame
Note6x clips, Install the lower clips first and rotate the shell up into place, Light pressure may need to be applied to the shell to ensure it's fully seated, The headrest posts will engage the seat back when installed

Route LH sensor harnesses underneath toe kick strap_x000A_
-
Zip-tie both LH seat back heater and sensor harnesses onto spring mat_x000A_
Note1x zip tie
-
Secure the toe kick straps from both sides of the interior seat base
Note2x hook clips
-
Install the headrest into seat
Note2x locking clips, Ensure the headrest is fully seated, An audible click will be heard when installing the headrest, Ensure the headrest is seated by tugging up on the headrest

Install LH front seat into vehicle
NoteRecommend Assistance, Take care not to damage surrounding components while lifting the seat into the vehicle

Connect LH front seat harness
Note1x connector
-
Connect First Responder Loop and 12V negative terminal
Note1x nut, 10mm, 5 Nm, 1x connector
- Move LH front seat forward
-
Install LH front seat rear fasteners
Note2x patch bolts, T47P, 33.5 Nm, Install new patch bolts
- Move LH front seat backward
-
Install LH front seat front fasteners
Note2x patch bolts, T47P, 33.5 Nm, Install new patch bolts
- Move LH front seat to original position
- Close both doors on the LH side
-
Install HEPA filter outlet duct
-
Install HEPA filter inlet duct
Note2x tabs, One on each side
-
Install clips securing HEPA filter inlet duct to cowl panel
Note3x push clips
-
Secure drainage hoses to HEPA filter inlet duct
Note2x hoses
-
Install RH underhood apron
Note9x clips
-
Install LH underhood apron
Note9x clips
-
Install rear underhood apron
Note8x clips
-
Close hood
NotePress firmly in green highlighted areas (see image), Damage may result from pressure elsewhere on hood
