Brightwork - Body side - LH (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
Removal
- Lower the LH front and rear windows.
- Open the liftgate.

Release the top of the front and rear door primary seals.

Remove the screws (x12) that secure the body side brightwork.

Apply painter's tape to the body near the rear quarter glass to prevent damage
in the next step.
NoteThe brightwork is held to the upper section of the quarter glass channel with double-sided tape and to the lower section of the quarter glass channel with adhesive.

Starting from the rear, carefully release the body side brightwork from the tape
and adhesive on the rear quarter glass channel.
NoteSome vehicles will have clips securing the brightwork at the rear of the vehicle. If clips are present on the brightwork, release the clips that attach the brightwork to the vehicle.

Remove the brightwork.
CAUTIONTake care not to damage component(s).
Installation
- Use a scraper tool to remove the adhesive from the lower section of the rear quarter glass channel.
- Use alcohol wipes to clean the rear quarter glass channel thoroughly.

Inspect the quarter glass channel and
new bright work.
NoteIf the quarter glass channel does not have a hole for the locator post, or the hole does not align with the locator post on the new brightwork, remove the locator post from the brightwork before go to next step.

Use the Tape Measure Metric/Inch to measure out 415 mm of 3m double sided tape, and
apply it onto quarter glass.

Apply primer to lower section of the LH Assembly and corresponding section on new
brightwork molding.
NoteIf datum will not be used, also prime hole and to later be filled with urethane (reduces chance of wind noise).
- Apply primer to the LH upper portion and remove the red tape protection 3M strips.

Apply primer to the lower section of the rear quarter glass channel and the
corresponding section of the brightwork, as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.
WarningCheck the expiration date of the primer and adhesive before use.NoteCheck the primer and adhesive packaging for the appropriate working times for each product. Prepare the necessary tools and work environment so that the the brightwork can be installed within the specified working times.NoteIf the locator post was removed from the brightwork, apply primer to the area surrounding the locator post. Apply primer to the locator post hole, if applicable.
- Apply double-sided tape to the upper section of the rear quarter glass channel.

Replace the upper seal carrier grommets (x12).

Apply the adhesive to the lower section of the rear quarter glass channel.
NoteIf the locator post was removed from the brightwork, apply adhesive to the area surrounding the locator post. Apply adhesive to the locator post hole, if applicable.
- Remove the backing film from the double-sided tape.

Align the brightwork to the bodyside and adjust to obtain the best possible
fit.
Tip: Apply P-80 emulsion to rubber or foam surfaces as needed to aid installation.
- Loosely install the forwardmost screw to support the front of the brightwork.
- Use a molding hold-down tool to hold the forward lower corner of the brightwork to the rear quarter glass channel.
- Tighten the screws (x12), starting with the rear screw and moving forward (torque 2.5 Nm).
- Reinstall the front and rear primary body seals.
