Battery Coolant Pump 1 (3rd Generation) (Remove and Replace)

Removal

Note
Before disconnecting the 12V power supply, ensure that the driver’s door window is fully open. Failure to follow this instruction could result in vehicle lockout.
  1. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  3. Disconnect the battery coolant pump 1 electrical connector.
  4. Put an absorbent material such as a shop towel under the battery coolant pump 1 hose to absorb any residual coolant.
  5. Release the hose clamp that attaches the battery coolant pump 1 hose using the flexible spring band clamp pliers, and the remove the hose from the pump.
  6. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the chiller assembly to the front subframe assembly, and then release the chiller assembly from the front subframe assembly.
  7. Disconnect the chiller assembly electrical connector.
  8. Release the harness clip from the chiller assembly.
  9. Release the coolant hose clip that attaches the hose from the chiller assembly to the front subframe assembly.
  10. Disconnect the 12V electrical connector from the steering rack.
  11. Release the harness clip from the front subframe assembly.
  12. Move the chiller assembly aside for access to the hose and the pump assembly, and then hold the chiller assembly in place using a bungee cord or similar.
  13. Place absorbent material such as a shop towel underneath the coolant pump 1 to absorb any residual coolant.
  14. Release the hose clamp that attaches the coolant hose from the 4-way valve to the battery coolant pump 1, and then remove the hose from the pump.
  15. Put absorbent material below such as a shop towel to absorb any residual coolant, and then slide the coolant pump 1 to the right of the vehicle for removal from the bracket.

Installation

  1. Install the battery coolant pump 1 onto the bracket assembly by aligning the cutout with the bracket, and then slide the pump to the LH side of the vehicle.
  2. Install the coolant hose from the 4-way valve to the battery coolant pump 1, and then secure it with the hose clamp.
  3. Put the chiller assembly back in its original position.
  4. Install the hose from the chiller assembly to the battery coolant pump 1, and then secure it with the hose clamp.
  5. Connect the battery coolant pump 1 electrical connector.
  6. Connect the 12V steering rack electrical connector.
  7. Install the harness clip onto the front subframe assembly.
  8. Secure the coolant hose clip onto the front subframe assembly.
  9. Secure the harness clip onto the chiller assembly.
  10. Connect the chiller assembly electrical connector.
  11. Install the bolts (x3) that attach the chiller assembly to the front subframe assembly (torque 5 Nm).
  12. Reconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  13. Perform the cooling system partial refill and bleed. See Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed.
  14. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).
