Correction Code 39300202
- 2024-02-28: Updated gearbox fluid.
Special tool(s) required for this procedure:
Part Number | Description |
1131264-00-A | Switchbox, oil pump, Model 3 |
1129348-00-A | Jump start, XP-10 |
Drain
- Raise and support the vehicle on a 2-post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift .
- Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the HEPA filter inlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Inlet (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the HEPA filter outlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Outlet (Remove and Replace) .
- Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power .
- Fully raise the vehicle on a 2-post lift. See Raise Vehicle - 2 Post Lift .
- Remove the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the front bash plate extrusion. See Bash Plate - Front - Extrusion (Remove and Replace) .
- Remove the front skidplate. See Skidplate - Front (Remove and Replace) .
- Put an oil drain container underneath the oil pump area.
-
Disconnect the oil pump
electrical connector.
-
Remove the bolts (x2) that attach
the oil pump to the front drive unit assembly.
-
Remove the oil pump from the
front drive unit assembly by prying the oil pump away from the front drive unit
using a pry tool or a flat blade screwdriver.
CAUTIONDo not damage the front drive until casing.NoteAllow the gearbox fluid to drain from the front drive unit assembly.
-
Put a foldable funnel under the
oil filter on the front subframe assembly.
-
Remove the oil filter from the
front drive unit assembly by spinning the filter counterclock wise using an oil
filter socket. Allow the gearbox fluid to drain, and then remove the oil filter
from the front drive unit assembly.
NoteTesla recommends that the oil filter is replaced with a new one upon removal. Any oil filter with visible corrosion or leaks must be replaced.NoteAllow at least 10 minutes for the gearbox fluid to drain from the front drive unit, or until a slow drip exits the front drive unit.
-
Remove the fill plug from the
front drive unit assembly.
Refill
-
Inspect the seal on the oil
filter, the O-ring on the fill plug, and O-rings (x3) on the oil pump.
- Make sure that the O-ring is on the fill plug, the 3 O-rings are on the oil pump, and no O-rings are stuck in the front drive unit assembly.
- If an O-ring is damaged on the oil pump, install a new O-ring.
- If the O-ring is damaged on the fill plug, install a new fill plug or O-ring.
- If the oil filter was removed, check that the seal is on the oil filter and not on the front drive unit assembly.
-
Lubricate the oil seal on a new
oil filter using fresh gearbox fluid.
NoteTesla recommends that the oil filter is replaced with a new one upon removal. Any oil filter with visible corrosion or leaks must be replaced.
-
Install the new oil filter on the front drive unit assembly by spinning it
clockwise 3 turns, then tighten to 3 Nm plus 135 degrees.
-
Remove the foldable funnel from the front subframe assembly.
- Lubricate the seals on the oil pump, and then install the oil pump onto the front drive unit assembly.
-
Install the bolts (x2) that attach the oil pump to the front drive unit assembly
(torque 5 Nm + 20 degrees).
-
Using the measure and fill kit,
fill the container with 2000 mL of gearbox fluid. See Fluids for required gearbox
fluid.
- Cut both the input and output hoses of the fluid transfer pump to approximately 26" (66 cm).
-
Insert the output hose of the fluid transfer pump into the fill hole of the
front drive unit until fully seated, and then pull the output hose back 5mm.
-
Set up the fill process by
putting the container with the measured fluid in the drain basket, and then fully
submerge the input hose of the fluid transfer pump and prime the pump.
- Connect the 12V power supply to the oil pump using the oil pump switchbox special tool and the XP-10 jump pack.
-
With an assistant, pump gearbox
fluid into the front drive unit assembly as follows:
NoteThe minimum refill capacity of the front drive unit assembly is 1.8 liters. Using excess gearbox fluid in the fill container allows the oil pump to dispense the full 1.8L without drawing air. Make sure that there is less than 200mL left when completed. Pumping the full 2 liters is not required.
-
Install the front drive unit assembly fill plug (torque 15 Nm).
- Disconnect the 12V power supply tool from the oil pump.
-
Connect the oil pump electrical connector.
- Remove the oil drain container from underneath the vehicle.
- Install the front skidplate. See Skidplate - Front (Remove and Replace) .
- Install the front bash plate extrusion. See Bash Plate - Front - Extrusion (Remove and Replace) .
- Install the front aero shield panel. See Panel - Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace) .
- Fully lower the vehicle and remove the vehicle from the lift.
- Reconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power .
- Install the HEPA filter outlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Outlet (Remove and Replace) .
- Install the HEPA filter inlet duct. See Duct - HEPA Filter - Inlet (Remove and Replace) .
- Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. See Underhood Apron - LH (Remove and Replace) .
- Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace) .
