Side Appliques - Panoramic Roof - 2nd Generation - LH/RH (Retrofit)

technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed
all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using
urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective
equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
Removal
- Lower the headliner for access (refer to procedure).
- Remove the LH and RH 1st generation panoramic roof side appliques (refer to procedure).

Remove the 1st generation roof rack mounts (x4).
NoteThe roof rack mounts might be retained by excess sealant from the panoramic roof frame or by interference with the edge of the panoramic roof frame. If necessary, carefully use a razor blade to cut the excess sealant at the top of the roof rack mounts, then carefully pry the mounts to release them from the body.WarningTo avoid personal injury, wear cut-resistant gloves when performing this operation.
Installation
Note
Perform this procedure on the
LH and RH sides of the vehicle.
- Remove all existing butyl patches and replace them with new ones.
- Vacuum any debris around the roof frame area.

Install new front and rear 2nd generation roof rack mounts and roof rack mount stud covers (torque 11 Nm).
CAUTIONTo prevent water ingress, install new rubber washers between the roof rack mounts and the body.
- Reinstall the headliner (refer to procedure).

Mark the locations where the clips will be attached on the underside of the 2nd generation side applique.
NoteThe clips will be attached to the underside of the applique in a later step.NoteMost clips can fit between multiple ribs, but must be installed between the correct 2 ribs, as shown.

Apply Klübersynth noise reduction grease to cover the area where the clip is to be installed, up to an area approximately 40 mm in diameter around each marked location.

Attach the clips to the marked locations.
NoteEnsure that the clips are attached to the correct ribs on the applique.
- Temporarily place the applique on the vehicle.

Tilt the top of the applique towards the center of the vehicle, then apply masking tape to the roof rail to mark the approximate position of each clip.
- Remove the applique.
- Clean the panoramic roof frame with alcohol wipes.

Clean the top surfaces of the clips with alcohol wipes.
NoteTake care not to remove any noise reduction grease from the applique.

Apply primer to the panoramic roof frame adjacent to each taped area. Apply at least a 75 mm length of primer to ensure that the clip touches a primed area when the applique is installed.
CAUTIONCheck the expiration date of the primer and adhesive before use.CAUTIONCheck the primer and adhesive packaging for the appropriate working times for each product. Prepare the necessary tools and work environment so that the applique can be installed within the specified working times.
- Apply primer to the top surfaces of the clips.
- Make sure the primer applied in 13 and 14 is dry.
- Assemble the adhesive applicator.

Apply approximately 3-4 mm of adhesive to the top surface of each clip.

Place the applique on the body. Press the applique into place.
NoteCheck the adhesive packaging for the appropriate working time.

Use the clamps to secure the applique while the adhesive cures.
CAUTIONDo not attempt to remove the applique until the adhesive has fully cured.
