Note
Some of the Toolbox Actions
within this procedure are related to vehicle security, and can only be performed
by Tesla employees or third parties authorized to perform security-related
Toolbox Actions. To learn more, see the Service Subscription FAQs available in
the user account dropdown menu.
CAUTION
Before beginning this
procedure, it is necessary to have all keys you want paired to the vehicle (including
existing keys) present. Any keys that are not present will deactivate after completing
the procedure.

Confirm that the battery voltage on
the new keys are sufficient for this procedure.
NoteReplace any battery that displays a voltage less than 2.9 V.NoteMake sure the drive rail is on before starting the programming process.
- Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Key-Pair" into the search field, click PROC_SEC_X_PEKTRON-KEY-PAIRSearch for routine in ToolboxSEC Pektron Key Pair, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- When prompted, enter the number of keys to program.
- Follow the onscreen instructions, pressing the buttons on the existing and new keys as necessary.

Verify that all keys function as
expected by locking and unlocking the vehicle and then opening and closing the trunk
and frunk.
NoteThe programming process might have caused false alerts. In this situation, power cycle the vehicle.
- Disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
