Camera - Forward Facing (Pitch Verification)
Correction Code 17221000
Special tool required for this procedure:
Supplier | Part Number | Description |
Tesla | 1053066-00-A | Camera Calibration Target |
Note
This procedure is for vehicles with
2nd generation and newer Autopilot.
Note
This procedure describes how to
verify forward facing camera pitch. It does not apply to the rear facing
camera.
Note
This procedure was designed for vehicles with factory suspension components. Check
if the vehicle has modified suspension components, as this might affect whether
calibration can be completed.
- 2025-04-08: Updated the camera routine procedure from Toolbox to Service UI for vehicles with software version higher than 2024.2.
Setup
- If the vehicle is equipped with air suspension, set the ride height to Standard.
-
Put the target tripod in the
appropriate starting position:
- The target is centered with the Tesla "T" on the front fascia.
- The lower edge of the target is 3 ft from the ground.
- The target has two legs facing the vehicle and both are less than 5 mm from the lower valance.
- The target and
vehicle are both on a flat surface.NoteIf a flat surface is unavailable, ensure that the vehicle and target are both on the same slope.
-
Apply a piece of black tape onto the target so that the top edge of the tape is 130 cm from the ground.
NoteThe checker pattern on the target is used for vehicles with 1st generation Autopilot. Ignore the checker pattern when affixing the tape.
- Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect). See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
Adjust
Note
Do not sit in or lean on the
vehicle during pre-calibration.
Note
For HW3 vehicles on firmware versions earlier than
2024.2, use Toolbox 3 instead of Service UI to perform camera calibration. In
Toolbox 3, go to
, and follow the on screen instructions to perform the
pre-calibration.- Enable Service Mode through the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
- Touch Driver Assist (steering wheel icon) and then touch Cameras.

- Touch Close when the routine has passed.
- Touch Reset DAS, and then touch Run.
- Touch Close when the routine has passed.
- Touch Camera Preview and then touch Main.
- Touch Pitch Verification to add the verification lines on the display.
- Review the image on the touchscreen.
-
In the "Main" and "Narrow" camera views, determine if the top edge of the tape is between the positive 1 and negative 3 green degree lines.
NoteThe "positive" degree lines are below the main horizontal axis. The "negative" degree lines are above the main horizontal axis.
- If the top edge of the tape is not between the green degree lines, retrofit a triple camera rear view mirror mount plate with integrated pitch adjustment, see Triple Camera Pitch Adjustment - Forward Facing - 2nd Generation Autopilot (Retrofit).
- If the top edge of the tape is between the green degree lines, continue to the next step.
-
Inform the customer that manual driving is now required to allow the camera to self-calibrate.
NoteSelf-calibration can take up to 100 miles (160 km) of manual driving, depending upon the road type and condition. Until self-calibration is complete, the message "Autopilot Features Currently Unavailable: Manual Driving Required While Camera Is Calibrating" is displayed if an attempt is made to engage an Autopilot feature.
