Module - Body Controller - BCM (1st Generation) (RHD) (Remove and Replace)

Note
Some of the Toolbox Actions
within this procedure are related to vehicle security, and can only be performed
by Tesla employees or third parties authorized to perform security-related
Toolbox Actions. To learn more, see the Service Subscription FAQs available in

Removal
-
Move the air suspension ECU, main
harness and associated connectors away for access to the BCM connections, (refer to procedure).
NoteDo not disconnect and remove the air suspension ECU from the vehicle.
- Remove the RH center console closeout extension, (refer to procedure).

Unclip the dead pedal finisher
from the dead pedal.

Release the clips (x4) that
attach the RH instrument panel side cover to the instrument panel, disconnect the
electrical connector, and then remove the instrument panel side cover.

Remove the RH middle A-pillar
trim.

Remove the clips (x4) that attach
the RH lower A-pillar trim to the vehicle.
NoteThe number of clips securing the trim may vary depending on the vehicle production date. Replace any damaged or missing clips prior to re-installing sill trim
- Remove the RH footwell cover, (refer to procedure).

Carefully fold back the front
section of the carpet at the RH footwell.

Remove the nuts (x2) (torque 5
Nm) that attach the dead pedal to the bulkhead.

Remove the bolts (x2) (torque 5
Nm) that attach the BCM to the bulkhead.
-
Release the connectors (x9) from
the BCM.

Remove the BCM bracket together
with the BCM.

Remove the screws (x4) (torque
1.8 Nm) that attach the BCM to the BCM bracket.
- Remove the BCM from the BCM bracket.
Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway Unlock.
- For the body controller, in Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "PROC-BDY" into the search field, click PROC_BDY_X_PEKTRON-VIN-LEARNSearch for routine in ToolboxBDY Pektron VIN Learn, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- For the security controller, in Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "PROC-SEC" into the search field, click PROC_SEC_X_PEKTRON-VIN-LEARNSearch for routine in ToolboxSEC Pektron VIN Learn, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Relearn all keys (refer to procedure).
- For early Model S vehicles, in Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "immobilizer reset" into the search field, click PROC_DI_X_IMMOBILIZER-RESETSearch for routine in ToolboxImmobilizer Reset Procedure, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
