CAUTION
For Europe only: Only technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.

Removal

  1. Protect external bodywork and internal trim adjacent to fixed glass.
  2. Place suitable covers over remaining paint and body work.
  3. Remove the panoramic roof sliding glass. See Sliding Glass - Panoramic Roof Assembly (Remove and Replace).
  4. Carefully release the clips (x4) that attach the headliner center trim to the cross rail.

    Replace any broken clips.
  5. 2nd generation panoramic roof only: Remove the fasteners (x3) that attach the metal bar to the roof frame.
  6. Remove the screws (x2) that attach the headliner to the roof frame or the metal bar, as applicable.
  7. Remove the LH C-pillar upper trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the RH C-pillar upper trim.
  9. Release the rear header clips (x5), and lower the rear of the headliner.

    The headliner does not need to be completely lowered.
  10. Assemble sealant cutting tool and cut a hole in sealant.
  11. Carefully cut sealant securing glass to body and remove glass. Note installed position of any height or alignment setting blocks.

    CAUTION

  12. Position glass on a suitable stand.
  13. Remove sealant from body and original glass if re-installing.

Installation

  1. Clean and polish glass.
  2. Attach suction handles (x2) to exterior surface of the glass.
  3. Apply primer as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.

    Check the primer and urethane adhesive packaging for the appropriate working times for each product. Prepare the necessary tools and the work environment so that the glass can be installed within the specified working times.
  4. Assemble the caulking gun and urethane adhesive applicator.

    Urethane adhesive applicator opening must be 8mm wide and 14mm tall.
  5. Apply the urethane adhesive to roof opening. If height blocks or spacers were found during removal, install blocks to previously noted positions.
  6. With assistance position and align glass to body opening. Evenly and progressively press glass onto spacers.
  7. Apply suitable tape to secure the glazing while the adhesive cures.

    Do not drive the vehicle until the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended minimum drive-away time has passed. Dow Betaseal Express has a drive-away time of 1 hour minimum in temperatures of 0˚F (-18˚C) or warmer. If necessary, leave the tape applying pressure to the glass on the vehicle and advise the customer that they can remove it after 24 hours. Additionally, advise the customer that they should avoid high driving speeds and speed bumps for the next 24 hours.
  8. Remove the suction cups.
  9. Examine the integrity of the whole length of sealant joint and add more if required.
  10. Clean off any excess sealant extruded from the joint.
  11. Reinstall the panoramic roof sliding glass. See Sliding Glass - Panoramic Roof Assembly (Remove and Replace).
