Media Control Unit (Dispose)

CAUTION
This procedure must be performed
prior to disposing of a Media Control Unit (MCU). The MCU might contain
personally identifying Customer data. Failure to perform this procedure can
result in vulnerabilities to Customer and Tesla internal information.
Note
The correction code for the disposal of the MCU must be
added to the Service Visit as a separate activity when replacing a car
computer.
Disposal Procedure (NVIDIA Tegra MCU)
- Make sure the Gateway SD card is removed and destroyed. If necessary, see Media Control Unit (Remove and Replace).

Remove the screws (x6) that
attach the bezel to the MCU, and then remove the bezel.
- Remove the screws (x12) That attach the MCU backing to the touchscreen.
- Remove the connectors that attach the flex harness and ribbon cables to the MCU PCBA.
- Remove the screws (x4) that attach the fan cover and board, and then remove the board from the MCU.
- Remove the screws (x2) that attach the heatsink to the PCBA.

Use an 8mm drill bit to
drill holes (x2) through the Tegra CPU and eMMC, and through the PCBA.
NotePlace a block of wood or other buffer material under the PCBA.
- Capture images of the drilled out chips, and upload the images to the MRB attachment section.

Dispose of the MCU.

Disposal Procedure (Intel Atom MCU)
- Make sure the Gateway SD card is removed and destroyed. If necessary, refer to the removal section of Media Control Unit (Remove and Replace).

Remove the screws (x6) that attach the bezel to the MCU, and then remove
the bezel.
- Remove the screws (x12) That attach the MCU backing to the touchscreen.
- Remove the connectors that attach the flex harness and ribbon cables to the MCU PCBA.
- Remove the screws (x2) that attach the single piece stiffener to the housing.
- Remove the screws (x3) that attach the MCU fan to the board. and release the MCU fan connector.
- Remove the screws (x10) that attach the MCU PCBA, and then take the board out of the housing.
- Remove the screws (x4) that attach the fan shroud and heatsink to expose the Intel CPU and eMMC.

Use an 8mm drill bit to drill holes (x2) through the Intel CPU and eMMC,
and through the PCBA.
NotePlace a block of wood or other buffer material under the PCBA.
- Capture images of the drilled out chips, and upload the images to the MRB attachment section.

Dispose of the MCU.
