Pyrotechnic Battery Disconnect (Remove and Replace)

Choose the appropriate procedure based on the vehicle's configuration and date of manufacture:
CAUTION
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) components can be hazardous if not serviced and handled correctly. See Air Bag and Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) Precautions
CAUTION
In the event of an airbag or seatbelt pretensioner deployment, certain components must be replaced, and other components must be inspected for damage. Refer to the Collision Repair Manual for a specific list of items that must be inspected and replaced.

1st Generation RWD

Removal

  1. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power .
  2. LHD vehicles only: Remove the pollen filter rear housing:
    1. If equipped, release the 2 barrel clips that secure the HV harness to the bulkhead.
    2. Loosen the top right nut that secures the pollen filter rear housing to the bulkhead (torque 6 Nm).
      Note
      It is not necessary to completely remove the nut; the tab on the housing is notched.
    3. Remove the remaining nuts (x3) that secure the pollen filter rear housing to the bulkhead (torque 6 Nm).
      Note
      The 2 lower nuts secure the HVAC intake drain diverter.
  3. RHD vehicles only: Pull back the LH front upper wheel arch liner for access (refer to procedure).
    Note
    The wheel arch liner does not need to be completely removed.
  4. Remove the nuts (x2) that secure the fuse box cover (torque 3 Nm).

  5. Disconnect the pyrotechnic battery disconnect harness.
  6. Remove the nuts (x2) that secure the pyrotechnic battery disconnect (torque 12 Nm).
  7. Remove the pyrotechnic battery disconnect from the vehicle.

Installation

  1. Installation procedure is the reverse of removal.

1st Generation Dual Motor/2nd Generation

Removal

  1. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power .
  2. Remove the fuse box cover.
  3. Disconnect the pyrotechnic battery disconnect harness.
  4. Release the relay holder from the bracket and move it out of the working area.
  5. Remove the nuts (x2) that secure the pyrotechnic battery disconnect (torque 15 Nm).
  6. Remove the pyrotechnic battery disconnect from the vehicle.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Make sure that the ring terminals are positioned on the pyrotechnic battery disconnect mounting studs before reinstalling the nuts.
