This procedure details the retrofit of curtain airbags 1005261-00-H (LH) and 1005262-00-H (RH) on Model S vehicles built before 19 June 2018. Refer to the Parts Catalog for more information.
  1. Open all four doors
  2. Lower all four windows
  3. Open Liftgate
  4. Open hood

  23. Remove LH upper B-pillar trim and move it aside

    2x metal clips, 1x tab, First pull the lower part toward inside the vehicle to release clips, once released pull the trim downwards
  24. Remove the plastic grommet that covers the fastener anchoring the LH seat belt to the pre-tensioner
  25. Remove the bolt that secures the fixed seat belt end to LH pre-tensioner

  26. Separate seat belt pretensioner cover and release the seat belt from the LH pretensioner
  27. Remove the screws that secure the seat belt guide to the rear of the LH upper B-pillar trim.

  73. Remove the LH curtain airbag assembly

    Warning: Store the airbag module with the deployment side facing up. This will prevent it from being propelled if accidentally deployed, which might cause injury.
  74. Disconnect the RH curtain airbag harness connector

  81. Place the RH curtain airbag assembly into the vehicle
  82. Align the airbag pyrotechnic locating tab to the RH cantrail and secure the pyrotechnic in place with the nearby clip

    1x locating tab, 1x fir tree clip, start pyrotechnic locating tab into bore on cantrail then rotate pyrotechnic assembly and wiggle while maintaining forward pressure in order to get tab to slide into place. ensure airbag assembly is not twisted before installing the fir tree clip to the body
  83. Secure the airbag location pegs to the RH cantrail

  84. Install bolts securing RH curtain airbag to body

    9x bolts, 10mm, 10 Nm, The 10th bolt on the tether at the front of the airbag is not to be installed yet. Rivnut installation on the A pillar is required for this bolt, ensure that wiring harness and panoramic roof drain tubes are properly routed and connected before moving onto the next step

  86. Install forward foam block on RH side curtain airbag housing
