Cooling System - Drain and Refill
Correction Code 18300100
Note
Make sure at least 14 L of the specified coolant is available before beginning this procedure.
CAUTION
Use the specified
coolant only, see Fluids.
Special tools required for this procedure:
Supplier | Part Number | Description |
Tesla | 1144575-00-A | Adapter, Coolant Reservoir, MS/MX (or comparable tool; specialized version not required) |
Tesla | 1140501-00-A | Kit, Encl Leak Test, HV Battery Note Only the 1026636-00-A Pack Enclosure Leak Tester Assembly is used for this procedure. |
Drain
Warning
If the 12V power
supply is disconnected, do not attempt to open any doors with door glass in
closed position. Failure to follow this instruction could result in door glass
shatter.
Note
Before
disconnecting the 12V power supply, ensure that the driver’s door window is
fully open. Failure to follow this instruction could result in vehicle
lockout.
- Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
-
Using Toolbox 3:
- Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power .
-
Remove the front aero shield (refer to procedure).
NoteThis procedure describes access of the coolant hoses from below the vehicle. Alternatively, the underhood storage unit can be removed to access the coolant hoses.
- RWD:(refer to procedure)
- Dual Motor:(refer to procedure)
- Lower the vehicle to a height that allows access to the chiller and the coolant reservoir.
-
Position a suitable container to collect the drained coolant. The container should be able to hold at least 14 L.
NoteTo reduce splashing, do not remove the cap from the coolant reservoir yet.
-
Disconnect the LH coolant hose from the chiller.
-
Remove the cap from the coolant reservoir.
- Allow the coolant to drain.
- Clamp the disconnected LH chiller coolant hose.
- Connect the Pack Enclosure Leak Tester to the Coolant Reservoir Adapter, and then install the Coolant Reservoir Adapter onto the reservoir.
- Make sure the outlet valve on the Pack Enclosure Leak Tester is closed (the handle is perpendicular to the valve).
- Connect the Pack Enclosure Leak Tester to a compressed air line.
-
Set the pressure regulator on the Pack Enclosure Leak Tester to 5 psi (0.34 Bar).
CAUTIONDo not exceed 5 psi (0.34 bar) or damage to the HV battery might occur.
- Slowly open the outlet valve on the leak tester. When enough coolant has been removed so that the flow has been reduced to a slow drip, close the outlet valve.
- Remove the clamp from the LH chiller coolant hose.
-
Clamp the RH chiller coolant hose. Do not disconnect the RH chiller coolant hose from the chiller.
- Slowly open the outlet valve on the leak tester. When enough coolant has been removed so that the flow has been reduced to a slow drip, close the outlet valve.
- Remove the clamp from the RH chiller coolant hose.
- Reconnect the LH chiller coolant hose.
- Install the front aero shield.
- Disconnect the Pack Enclosure Leak Tester from the Coolant Reservoir Adapter, and then remove the Coolant Reservoir Adapter from the reservoir.
Refill
Note
Make sure at least 14 L of the
specified coolant is available before continuing this procedure.
CAUTION
Use the specified
coolant only. In this manual, refer to Fluids.
- Reconnect 12V power. See (refer to procedure).
-
Refill and bleed the cooling
system (refer to procedure).
Tip: It might be faster to refill the cooling system with the vacuum refill tool (refer to procedure).NoteCheck for coolant leaks while performing the refill and bleed procedure.
