Compressor - Air Suspension (Remove and Replace)

Choose the appropriate procedure based
on the vehicle's date of manufacture:
- Vehicles built through April 10, 2016, refer to 1st Generation
- Vehicles built after April 10, 2016, refer to 2nd Generation
1st Generation
Correction Code 31102002
Warning
If the vehicle has air
suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and
supporting the vehicle.
Removal
- Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure)
- Depressurize the air suspension (refer to procedure)
- Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
- Remove the front LH fusebox cover.
- Remove and discard the relay from K11.
- Remove the underhood storage unit for access (refer to procedure)
- Remove the front skid plate (refer to procedure)

Disconnect the air suspension harness connectors (x2).
- Release the clips (x2) securing the harness connector to compressor bracket.

Release the clip that secures
the air intake hose to the air compressor. Release the hose and move it
aside.

Disconnect the pipe fittings
(x2) from the air compressor.
CAUTIONPlug pipe connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.

Remove the bolts (x3) securing
the air compressor to the compressor bracket.

Remove the air suspension compressor.
Installation
-
Install the air compressor
into the vehicle.
-
Install the bolts (x3)
securing the air compressor to the compressor bracket (torque 4 Nm).

Connect the pipe fittings (x2)
to the air compressor.
-
Install the air intake hose to
the air compressor, and then fasten the clip that secures the hose to the
compressor.
- Fasten the clips (x2) securing the harness connector to the compressor bracket.

Connect the air suspension harness connectors (x2).
- Install the front skid plate (refer to procedure)
- Install the underhood storage unit (refer to procedure)
- Install a new relay into K11.
- Install the front LH fusebox cover.
- Connect 12V power (refer to procedure).
- Pressurize the air suspension (refer to procedure)
- Remove the vehicle from the lift (refer to procedure)
- Verify air suspension operation.
2nd Generation
Correction Code 31102302
Warning
If the vehicle has air
suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and
supporting the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle (refer to procedure)
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "TAS service mode" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-SERVICE-MODESearch for routine in ToolboxTAS Enter Service Run Mode, click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- Click the Actions tab, type "Deflate" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATESearch for routine in ToolboxTAS Deflate ComponentChassis ➜ Suspension ➜ Deflate, click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- Click the Actions tab, type "TAS service mode" into the search field, click PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODESearch for routine in ToolboxTAS Enter Normal Run Mode, click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
- Once all Toolbox 3 routines have been completed, disconnect the laptop with Toolbox 3 from the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Remove the underhood storage unit (refer to procedure).
- Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).

Release the clips (x2), and then
remove the front fusebox cover.
NoteVehicles built August 21, 2017 and later use an eFuse, not a relay. For these vehicles, skip to step 12.
- Remove and discard the relay from K112.

Disconnect the air compressor
connectors (x2).
-
Release the fir tree clip that secures the coolant hose to the compressor
bracket.

Release the clamp and fir tree
clip that secure the air intake hose to the air compresor, and then move the hose
aside.

Remove the fasteners (x3) that
secure the compressor bracket to the subframe.
- Gently lift the air compressor up and tilt it towards the RH side of the vehicle to access the pipe fittings.

Remove the pipe fittings from the
air compressor.

Release the clip that secures the
air compressor harness connector to the compressor bracket.
-
Remove the bolts that secure the
air compressor to the compressor bracket.
-
Remove the air compressor from
the compressor bracket.
Installation
-
Install the air compressor to
the compressor bracket, and then install the bolts that secure the compressor
to the bracket (torque 5 Nm).
-
Fasten the clip that secures
the air compressor harness connector to the compressor bracket.
-
Connect the pipe fittings (x2)
to the air compressor.
-
Install the compressor bracket
to the subframe, and then install the fasteners (x3) that secure the compressor
bracket to the subframe (torque 4 Nm).

Install the air intake hose to
the air compressor, and then fasten the clamp and fir tree clip that secure the
hose to the compresor.
-
Fasten the fir tree clip that
secures the coolant hose to the compressor bracket.
-
Connect the low voltage
harnesses to the air compressor connector.

Install a new relay into
K112.
NoteVehicles built August 21, 2017 and later use an eFuse, not a relay. For these vehicles, skip to step 10.
- Install the front fusebox cover.
- Connect 12V power (refer to procedure).
- Pressurize the air suspension (refer to procedure)
- Install the underhood storage unit (refer to procedure).
- Verify air suspension operation.
- Remove the vehicle from the lift (refer to procedure)
