Note
Use Dow Betaseal Express fast-curing glass adhesive to perform this procedure.

Removal

  1. If equipped, remove the forward facing camera (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the LH 'A' post trim (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the RH 'A' post trim.
  4. Remove the interior mirror (refer to procedure).
  5. Remove the screen cowl panel (refer to procedure).
  6. Protect the external bodywork and the internal trim adjacent to the front windshield.
  7. Place suitable covers over the remaining paint and body work.
  8. Assemble a windshield adhesive cutting tool.
  9. Carefully cut the windshield adhesive and remove the glazing. Note the installed position of any height or alignment setting blocks.

  10. Position the glazing on a suitable stand.
  11. Remove the adhesive from the body and the original glazing, if re-installing.

Installation

CAUTION
Use soft materials to protect the windshield and to prevent scratching. Verify that the rubber strip completely separates the windshield from the metal components of the body.
  1. Clean the windshield as needed. Take special caution to the forward-facing camera area to ensure a clear view of the forward-facing camera. See Clear Forward Camera View (Precision Cleaning Of Inboard Windshield).
  2. Apply primer as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.

    Check the primer and adhesive packaging for the appropriate working times for each product. Prepare the necessary tools and the work environment so that the glass can be installed within the specified working times.
  3. Assemble the adhesive applicator.

    Cut a triangular cross-section into the applicator approximately 8 mm wide and 14 mm tall.
  4. Attach suction handles (x2) to the exterior glazing surface.
  5. Apply adhesive to the windshield opening. If height blocks or spacers were found during removal, install them to their previous positions.
  6. With assistance, position and align glazing to the body opening. Evenly and progressively press the windshield glazing onto the spacers.
  7. Apply suitable tape to secure the glazing while the adhesive cures.

    Warning
    Do not drive the vehicle until the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended minimum drive-away time has passed. Dow Betaseal Express has a drive-away time of 1 hour minimum in temperatures of 0˚F (-18˚C) or warmer. If necessary, leave the tape applying pressure to the glass on the vehicle and advise the customer that they can remove it after 24 hours. Additionally, advise the customer that they should avoid high driving speeds and speed bumps for the next 24 hours.
  8. Remove the suction cups.
  9. Examine the integrity of the adhesive joint and add more if required.
  10. Clean off any excess adhesive that was extruded from the joint.
  11. Install a new light/rain sensor (refer to procedure).

    Note
    The light/rain sensor is a one time use component. If the rain/light sensor is removed from the windshield, a new sensor must be installed.
  12. If equipped, install the forward facing camera (refer to procedure).
  13. Adjust the forward facing camera:

    Autopilot features might be reduced if camera pitch is not verified.

    The next step only applies to vehicles with 2nd Generation or newer Autopilot which have a new temperature and humidity sensor installed on the vehicle.
  14. Reinstall the latest vehicle firmware, or update the firmware if not the latest. See Firmware Reinstall - Touchscreen or Firmware Update.
