Body Glass - Rear Quarter - LH (Remove and Replace)

Warning
To avoid personal injury, wear
cut-resistant gloves when performing this operation.
Note
Use Dow Betaseal Express fast-curing
glass adhesive to perform this procedure.
CAUTION
For Europe only: Only
technicians who have been trained in working with diisocyanates and have completed
all required certification courses are permitted to perform procedures using
urethane and other products containing diisocyanates. Proper personal protective
equipment (PPE) must be worn when working with products containing diisocyanates.
Removal
- Remove the LH body side brightwork (refer to procedure).
- Remove the LH rear sill panel trim (refer to procedure).

Carefully release the clips (x3) that secure the headliner to the
cantrail.
CAUTIONTake care not to damage component(s).

Remove the bolts (x2) that secure
the rear quarter glass assembly to the body.
- Apply painter's tape to the body panel adjacent to the rear quarter window glass.

If present, drill out the rivet securing the rear of the quarter glass.
Tip: Start with a pilot hole through the center of the rivet, then use a larger drill bit to completely drill out the rivet.NoteTo prevent later NVH issues, do not allow the rivet to fall into body of vehicle.

Use auto glass cut-out wire and wire gripping handles to cut the adhesive
bonding the quarter glass to the body.
NoteStart from the rear of the vehicle and use an adhesive cutting tool (such as a glazing wire, Equalizer hand blade, or Equalizer 360) as required. Remove any broken locator clips from the vehicle interior.

Depress the clip and release it from the body.
CAUTIONTake care not to damage component(s).CAUTIONReplace any broken clips.

Remove the quarter glass assembly from the vehicle.
Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Remove remaining urethane from
the surrounding body and trim components using an adhesive scraper and IPA wipes.
Allow the alcohol to dry fully before continuing to the next step.
CAUTIONTake care not to damage component(s).
- Clean and polish the rear quarter glass.

Apply primer to the rear quarter
window mounting area as directed by the adhesive manufacturer. Make sure that the
primer fully covers any nicks or scratches in the paint.
WarningCheck the expiration date of the primer and adhesive before use.NoteCheck the primer and adhesive packaging for the appropriate working times for each product. Prepare the necessary tools and work environment so that the glass can be installed within the specified working times.
- Clean the etched area of the glass with alcohol wipes. Allow the alcohol to dry fully before continuing to the next step.

Apply primer to the etched area
of the glass as directed by the adhesive manufacturer.
NoteCheck the primer packaging for the appropriate wait time before applying adhesive.

Assemble the adhesive applicator.
NoteCut a triangular cross-section into the applicator approximately 7 mm wide and 12 mm tall.
- Apply suitable adhesive to the quarter glass.
- Once the quarter glass is in position, install a new rivet in the location where the rivet was removed during removal of the quarter glass.
- Align glazing in the body opening.

Apply suitable tape to secure the glazing while the adhesive cures.
WarningDo not drive the vehicle until the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended minimum drive-away time has passed. Dow Betaseal Express has a drive-away time of 1 hour minimum in temperatures of 0˚F (-18˚C) or warmer. If necessary, leave the tape applying pressure to the glass on the vehicle and advise the customer that they can remove it after 24 hours. Additionally, advise the customer that they should avoid high driving speeds and speed bumps for the next 24 hours.NoteEnsure that excess adhesive is removed prior to installing the brightwork.
- When installing the body side brightwork (refer to procedure), make sure to apply adhesive/adhesive tape as required.
