Handle Motor - Exterior Release - Door - Front - LH - Generation 3.0 (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Remove the exterior handle assembly. See Handle - Exterior Release - Door - Front - LH - Generation 3.0 (Remove and Install) .
  2. Position the door handle assembly on a soft working surface.
  3. Remove the screws (x5) that attach the door handle assembly rear cover (torque 1.8 Nm).
  4. Disconnect the DC motor connector.
  5. Use a plastic trim tool to carefully guide the harness wires through the opening in the tabs (x3) that attach the harness to the door handle carrier, and then release the harness.

    Use care not to break the tabs.
  6. Remove and discard the fasteners (x3) that secure the DC motor to the LH front door handle assembly (1 Nm).
  7. Remove the DC motor from the door handle assembly by lifting and sliding the motor up and out of the door handle carrier.

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

Always replace plugs or tape removed from the front door shells when servicing or inspecting the door or its components. Additional holes in the door creates more escape paths for air, which decreases the front door pressure sensor's ability detect a side impact, and can negatively affect airbag deployment.
  • Use the door handle alignment tool before tightening the nuts that secure the handle to the door outer panel.
  • To achieve a fit consistent with the other door handles on the vehicle, 1 shim (1.5mm thick) on each door handle mounting stud is nominal. If necessary to achieve the correct fit, try combinations of 1 or 2 shims, up to a total of 3.0 mm total thickness for all shims on any of the 4 door handle mounting studs.
  • Test the door handle before reassembling the door.

    Note
    Use a pen or similar object to latch the door while the door is open. The mechanism is latched after 2 clicks.
  • Reinstall any plugs and replace any waterproof tape that covered any of the nuts.
  • Use the marks to align the regulator.
  • Align the glass to the seals. See Door Glass - LH - Front - Adjust .
