Brake Caliper - Rear - Mando - LH (Remove and Replace)
Correction Code 33010902
Warning
If the vehicle has air
suspension, activate "Jack" mode on the touchscreen before raising and
supporting the vehicle.
Note
Model S base vehicles built after
November 16, 2016, have Mando rear integrated parking brake calipers. These vehicles use
1 caliper instead of 2 calipers.
Note
For replacing brake calipers on Model
S base vehicles built before November 16, 2016, or any Model S performance vehicle,
replace the Brembo calipers, see Brake Caliper - Rear - Brembo - LH (Remove and Replace).

Removal
- Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
- In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Pressure-Burnished" into the search field, click TEST_BRAKE_X_STIFFNESS-TEST-PRESSURE-BURNISHEDvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ Brake Stiffness Test, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.
- Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Install).

Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and place an absorbent material around the
opening of the reservoir.
NotePlace suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.CAUTIONIf brake fluid is spilled on a painted surface, wash off immediately with clean water.

Using Toolbox 3:

Disconnect the harness from the caliper motor.

Remove the bolt that attaches the
brake hose to the caliper (torque 42 Nm), and then release the hose from the
caliper.
CAUTIONPlug pipe connections to prevent ingress of moisture or dirt.NotePlace suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.CAUTIONIf brake fluid is spilled on a painted surface, wash off immediately with clean water.

Remove the bolts (x2) that attach
the caliper to the bracket (torque 120 Nm). Remove the caliper.
- Remove the bolt (x1) that attaches the name plate to the caliper.
Installation
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
- Use needle-nose pliers to ensure that the slots in the rear brake caliper piston face are at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock position. positions.
- Transfer the name plate to the new caliper.
- Install new washers (x2) when reinstalling the brake hose to the caliper.
- Perform the brake flush procedure.

- Pump the brake pedal at least 5 times to seat the pads against the brake rotors.WarningAlways check that the brake pads are seated correctly before driving the vehicle.
- Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication, if not already unlocked. See Gateway Unlock.
