Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed

Refill

CAUTION
Use the specified coolant only, see Fluids.
  1. Remove the coolant reservoir cap.
  2. Connect a laptop to the diagnostic port of the vehicle, and then use Toolbox 3 to locally connect to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Connect and Disconnect).
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication. See Gateway Unlock.
  4. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions tab and search for "Fluid fill drain"
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_THC_X_FLUID-FILL-DRAINvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Stop Fluid Fill/Drain, click on the link of the routine, and then select "Fluid Fill/Drain".
    3. Under "Action", select "Start".
    4. In "Fluid Fill Target", select "Coolant".

      CAUTION
      Ensure that the charge cable is not connected before continuing to the next step in this procedure.
    5. Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
  5. Fill the reservoir to the "MAX" line with the specified coolant while the "Fluid Drain and Fill" routine is running.
  6. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication, if not already unlocked. See Gateway Unlock.
  7. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions tab and search for "Fluid fill drain"
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_THC_X_FLUID-FILL-DRAINvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Stop Fluid Fill/Drain, click on the link of the routine, and then select "Fluid Fill/Drain".
    3. Under "Action", select "Stop"
    4. In "Fluid Fill Target", select "Coolant".
    5. Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.

Bleed

  1. Unlock the vehicle gateway for diagnostic communication, if not already unlocked. See Gateway Unlock.
  2. Using Toolbox 3:
    1. Select the Actions tab and search for "Coolant air purge".
    2. Select the ODIN routine PROC_THC_X_COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Air Purge, and then click on the link of the routine.
    3. Click RUN, and allow the routine to complete.
  3. Carefully monitor the coolant level while the routine is running, adding coolant as required.

    Note
    Do not allow the fluid level to drop below the "MIN" line during this procedure. Otherwise, air enters the system and the procedure must be repeated.
  4. The coolant level should stabilize before the routine ends. If the coolant level is still dropping, perform the routine again.
  5. Make sure that the coolant level is between the "NOM" and "MAX" lines.
  6. Install the coolant reservoir cap.
  7. Perform the Thermal Test. See Cooling System - Thermal Test.
