C-Clips - Strut - Liftgate - LH (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Support the liftgate with a prop.
  3. Release the clip that attaches the upper part of the strut to the liftgate, and then remove the strut from the ball joint.
  4. Release the clip that attaches the bottom part of the strut to the body, and the remove the strut from the ball joint.
  5. Remove the strut from the vehicle.
  6. Remove the clips (x2) from both ends of the LH liftgate strut.

Installation

  1. Use snap ring pliers to install new clips (x2) on the strut.

    Note
    Align the ends of the clip with the grooves on the strut, and then push the clip onto the strut until the clip is fully seated in the notch.

  2. Clean the strut ball studs on the hood and body (x2) with a clean rag.
  3. Position the LH liftgate strut on the body side ball stud, and then install the clip that attaches the strut to the body.
  4. Position the LH liftgate strut on the liftgate side ball stud, and then install the clip that attaches the strut to the liftgate.
  5. Remove the prop from the liftgate.
  6. Close and open the liftgate 3 times to verify proper strut installation.
