DO NOT perform a Partial or CAN reinstall to replace the MCU or DAS/FSD ECU. Doing so might cause irreapairable damage to components.

Note
This procedure describes how to reinstall the currently installed firmware using a laptop with Toolbox locally connected. The package will not be downloaded from Tesla servers.
  • Partial (UPDATE_CAN-REDEPLOYSearch for routine in ToolboxService CAN RedeployInfotainment Infotainmenthv / Procedures - ): Reinstalls the currently installed firmware package to all CAN ECUs. Do not use this for MCU, instrument panel (IC), DAS, or FSD module replacements.
  • Full (UPDATE_CAN-REDEPLOYSearch for routine in ToolboxService CAN RedeployInfotainment Infotainmenthv / Procedures - ): Reinstalls the currently installed firmware package to all components. Useful for when multiple modules are replaced at the same time (for example a DAS ECU and CAN ECU). DO NOT use this for MCU replacements.

Procedure

Note
Make sure the vehicle is operating firmware version 2020.36.11 or newer before proceeding. If vehicle firmware is older than 2020.36.11, update the firmware. See Firmware Update.
  1. Remove the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  2. Connect an LV battery maintainer to make sure power is not lost during the software reinstall.

    CAUTION
    If using a 50A or 80A maintainer, make sure the maintainer is set to "Lead Acid" or "Half Power" mode. Failure to do so could damage the LV battery.
  3. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  4. In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then type "Redeploy" in the search field.
  5. Run the appropriate routine and wait for the reinstallation to complete. Reinstallation status can be monitored on the vehicle touchscreen.

  6. Once the reinstallation is complete, check that the release notes appear on the touchscreen, indicating a successful reinstallation.
  7. Disconnect the LV maintainer.
  8. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  9. Install the rear underhood apron. See Underhood Apron - Rear (Remove and Replace).
