Windshield (Remove and Install)

Dépose

  1. Open the front doors and lower the front windows.
  2. Remove the LH instrument panel side cover assembly. Voir Ensemble - Recouvrement latéral du tableau de bord - Côté gauche (retrait et remplacement)
  3. Remove the LH middle A-pillar trim panel. Voir Panneau - Garniture de montant A - Centre - Gauche (retrait et remplacement)
  4. Remove the LH A-pillar trim. Voir Garniture – montant A – gauche (retrait et installation)
  5. Remove the driver sun visor. Voir Pare-soleil - gauche (retirez et remplacez)
  6. Remove the driver sun visor center support. Voir Support central - Pare-soleil - G (retirer et remplacer)
  7. Vehicles without Autopilot:
    1. Remove the rear view mirror trim. Voir Garniture - Rétroviseur (retirer et remplacer)
    2. Remove the rear view mirror:
  8. Vehicles without Autopilot or with 1st Generation Autopilot: Disconnect the light/rain sensor electrical connector.

    Note
    Disconnecting the light/rain sensor electrical connector prevents damage to the headliner harness or the light/rain sensor while the headliner is being lowered during the next steps.

  9. Vehicles with 1st or 2nd Generation Autopilot:
    1. Remove the rear view mirror. Voir Rétroviseur - 2ème génération (retirer et remplacer)
    2. Remove the forward facing camera. Voir Caméra – avant (retrait et remplacement)
  10. Remove the front passenger sun visor center support. Voir Support central - Pare-soleil - G (retirer et remplacer)
  11. Remove the RH instrument panel side cover assembly. Voir Ensemble - Recouvrement latéral du tableau de bord - Côté gauche (retrait et remplacement)
  12. Remove the RH middle A-pillar trim panel. Voir Panneau - Garniture de montant A - Centre - Gauche (retrait et remplacement)
  13. Remove the RH A-pillar trim. Voir Garniture – montant A – gauche (retrait et installation)
  14. Disconnect the heated wiper area electrical connector, and then tape windshield side of the electrical connector to the windshield.
  15. Release the clips (x6) that attach the headliner at the front of the vehicle.
  16. Put tape in front of the headliner to prevent damage to the headliner.
  17. Open the hood.
  18. Remove the rear underhood apron. Voir Tablier sous le capot - arrière (retrait et remplacement)
  19. Remove the LH and RH underhood aprons. Voir Tablier sous le capot – côté gauche (Retirer et remplacer)
  20. Vehicles with 2nd Generation Autopilot: Remove the inlet HEPA filter duct. Voir Conduit - Filtre HEPA - Entrée (retirer et remplacer)
  21. Remove the LH and RH wiper arms. Voir Bras d’essuie-glace - gauche (retrait et remplacement)
  22. Vehicles without Autopilot or with 1st Generation Autopilot: Remove the particulate filter. Voir Filtre – à particules (retrait et remplacement)
  23. Remove the cowl screen panel. Voir Panneau - Écran d’auvent (retrait et remplacement)
  24. Apply masking tape to the exterior of both A-pillars to protect the paint.
  25. Cut a piece of square wire with diagonal cutters to use with T-handles.

    Note
    Make sure to cut adequate length of square wire, and then attach it to one of the T-handle using needle nose pliers.
  26. Secure the square wire to the starter tool, and then push the tool through the urethane at the RH lower side of the windshield.

    CAUTION
    Use protective material to prevent damage to the speaker grille.
  27. Remove the square wire from the starter tool, and then secure the wire into the other T-handle.
  28. With an assistant holding the other end of the wire with needle nose pliers, pull the square wire tool back through into the vehicle.
  29. With an assistant, use the T-handles to cut the urethane that attaches the windshield to the body.

    Do not cut the locator pins located at the top of the windshield.

    Use protective material to prevent damage to the speaker grille and the VIN plate.
  30. Cut the square wires with diagonal cutters, and then remove the T-handles from the vehicle.
  31. Attach suction handles (x2) to the LH and RH side of the windshield.
  32. Partially close the hood for added clearance between the hood and the windshield.
  33. With an assistant, remove the windshield from the vehicle.
  34. Remove the suction handles from the windshield.
  35. Inspect the windshield for damage. If the damage is not repairable such as cracks on the glass, damaged heater grids, or camera mounts, replace the windshield. See Pare-brise (retirez et remplacez)

Windshield Preparation

  1. Remove the masking tape from the A-pillars and the headliner.
  2. Remove the old urethane bead from the body with the razor blade scraper tool and a winged scraper set.

    Make sure residual urethane is 1 mm or less in thickness.
  3. Remove the urethane bead and windshield seals from the glass with the razor blade scraper tool and a winged scraper set.
  4. Use a permanent market to draw an outline around the old locator pins to assist you with the installation of new locator pins.

    The use of a permanent marker won't allow the outline to be removed during cleaning.
  5. Remove the old locator pins using the razor blade scraper tool.
  6. Remove the net pads (x3) using the razor blade scraper tool.
  7. Remove the double sided tape residue using the razor blade scraper tool or an eraser wheel.
  8. Clean the mating surfaces with Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA).
  9. Measure the electrical resistance of the wiper heater grind using a multimeter: If the measured resistance is 2.34 ohms at 23 degrees C (+/- 15 %), continue to the next step. Otherwise, replace the windshield. See Pare-brise (retirez et remplacez)
  10. Install the windshield edge seal.

    Follow the windshield alignment marks at the lower corners of the glass.
  11. Install the windshield lip seal.

    Follow the windshield alignment marks at the upper corners of the glass: Start from one corner, and then peel the tape as you apply the seal slowly to ensure proper fitment.
  12. Install the net pads (x3).

    There will be alignment marks on the glass for the installation of the net pads.
  13. Install new locator pins (x2).

Installation

  2. Position the windshield on the vehicle for a dry fit.

  3. Visually inspect the windshield lip and edge seals.

    The seals should be sitting against the vehicle and look even all the way through.

  4. With an assistant, remove the windshield from the vehicle using the suction handles.
  5. Perform any net pad adjustments on the windshield, if needed.
  6. Wipe clean the urethane path on the vehicle with IPA.

    Make sure that the inside of the glass is clean and free of smudges on the VIN plate see-through portion of the windshield as it won't be accessible for cleaning once the windshield has been installed on the vehicle.
  7. Apply the urethane primer to the windshield and the vehicle body right along the old urethane path.

    Make sure to add urethane primer over any areas that were scratched during windshield removal.

    Allow the urethane primer to dry before applying urethane.
  8. Prepare the caulking gun and urethane. Opening of the urethane applicator must be 8mm wide and 14mm tall.
  9. Apply urethane to the windshield following the path of the urethane primer.

    Fill any gaps with urethane to ensure a consistent bead.
  10. With an assistant, install the windshield on the vehicle using the suction handles.

    Make sure to align the locator pins on top of the windshield while installing the windshield.
  11. Measure the gap and flush of the windshield to the body with a gap and flush tool. Make adjustment to the windshield, if needed.
  12. Press the windshield into position and check its gap and flush measurements to make sure that the windshield is within specifications.

    Use a ballast bag to hold down the windshield, if needed.
  13. Put masking tape to secure the windshield to be body while the urethane cures.

  15. Vehicles without Autopilot or with 1st Generation Autopilot: Install the particulate filter. Voir Filtre – à particules (retrait et remplacement)
  16. Install the LH and RH wiper arms. Voir Bras d’essuie-glace - gauche (retrait et remplacement)
  17. Vehicles with 2nd Generation Autopilot: Install the inlet HEPA filter duct. Voir Conduit - Filtre HEPA - Entrée (retirer et remplacer)
  18. Install the LH and RH underhood aprons. Voir Tablier sous le capot – côté gauche (Retirer et remplacer)
  19. Install the rear underhood apron. Voir Tablier sous le capot - arrière (retrait et remplacement)
  20. Close the hood.
  21. Verify that the wipers operate as designed.
  22. Reinstall the front portion of the headliner into position. Make sure that all dual lock connections (x4) are secured.

    Move the front seats forward to assist with the aligning of the front section of the headliner.
  23. Vehicles without Autopilot or with 1st Generation Autopilot:
    1. Connect the light/rain sensor electrical connector.

    2. Connect the rear view mirror:

  24. Vehicles with 1st or 2nd Generation Autopilot:
    1. Clean the inner windshield camera viewing area with a clean microfiber cloth and glass cleaner. Let the windshield fully dry before continuing.

      Verify that the windshield has no stains or leftover residue. Otherwise, Autopilot features may be hindered.

  35. Perform the forward facing camera pitch verification or target calibration:

    Autopilot features might be reduced if camera pitch is not verified.
  36. Wait for the urethane has cured before driving the vehicle, and then remove the tape securing the windshield to the body.

    Ne conduisez pas le véhicule avant que le temps de remise en service minimal recommandé par le fabricant de l’adhésif ne se soit écoulé. Dow Betaseal Express a un temps de remise en service minimal de 1 heure lorsque la température est de 0 ˚F (-18 ˚C) ou plus. Au besoin, laissez le ruban adhésif qui applique une pression sur la vitre et demandez au client de le retirer après 24 heures. De plus, indiquez au client d’éviter de conduire à haute vitesse et de rouler sur des dos d’âne pendant les prochaines 24 heures.
