Small RDU

Remove

  1. Préparez le véhicule pour le soulever :
    1. Véhicules dotés de la suspension pneumatique uniquement : Mettez le véhicule en mode Cric automobile.
    2. Mettez le véhicule en mode remorquage.
    3. Supportez le véhicule, mais ne le soulevez pas tout de suite.
  2. Disconnect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  3. Perform a vehicle HV disablement check. See Procédure de désactivation HT du véhicule.
  4. Remove the rear wheels. See Ensemble de roue (retrait et installation).
  5. Raise the vehicle to working height.
  6. On both sides of the vehicle, remove the nut that secures the shock absorber to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm), but do not remove the bolt yet.
  7. On both sides of the vehicle, loosen the bolts (x2) that secure the brake caliper to the knuckle (torque 120 Nm). Remove and support the calipers.

  8. Release the red locking tabs, and then disconnect the electrical harnesses from the LH and RH parking brake connectors.

  9. Remove the mid aero shield (voir la procédure).
  10. Remove the subframe shear plates by removing the nut (torque 35 Nm), clips (x2), and screws (x3) (torque 6 Nm) that secure each shear plate to the subframe.
  11. If equipped, remove the screws (x2) that secure the rear skid plate to the subframe (torque 10 Nm).
  12. Disconnect the subframe harnesses from the body harness.
    • Vehicles built through September 2014: 4 connectors at the back of the rear subframe
    • Vehicles built after September 2014: 3 connectors above the RH side of the rear undershield
  13. On the RH side of the drive unit, disconnect the logic connector.
  14. Remove and discard the 4 screws that retain the HV cables (torque 7 Nm). Move the cables away from the drive unit.
  15. On the top RH side of the drive unit, release the ground strap from the drive unit (torque 6.5 Nm).
  16. Release the clips that secure the HV cables:

  17. Remove the coolant hoses from the LH and RH sides of the drive unit.
    1. Place a coolant drain cart near the LH side of the drive unit.
    2. Clamp the coolant outlet hose near the charger.

    3. Release the hose clamp, remove the hose, allow the coolant to drain, and then plug the charger fitting.

    4. Move the coolant drain cart to the RH side of the drive unit.
    5. Clamp the coolant inlet hose before the T-fitting.

    6. Release the hose clamp, remove the hose, and allow the coolant to drain.
    7. Move the coolant drain cart away from the working area.
  18. If the drive unit is being removed, drain the gearbox fluid. See Liquide de la boîte d’engrenages - petites unités d’entraînement arrière (vidange et remplissage).
  19. Position the powertrain table with subframe fixture beneath the vehicle subframe.
  20. Connect shop air to the powertrain table.
  21. Carefully raise the powertrain table to support the rear subframe, aligning the subframe fixture dowels with the holes at the front of the subframe.
  22. Use a paint pen to trace around each subframe mounting bolt, so that the bolts can be realigned later during the subframe installation.
  23. Use a paint pen to apply witness marks where the front/rear subframe contacts the body at each subframe mounting bolt, so that the subframe can be realigned to the body later during subframe installation.

    Remarque
    Apply the witness marks at 90 degrees so that they indicate left/right and fore/aft movement.
  24. Remove the bolts (x4) that secure the rear subframe to the body (torque 140 Nm).
  25. Carefully lower the powertrain table approximately 3 in (75 mm) to gain access to the remaining attachments.

    While lowering the table, occasionally stop to make sure no hoses, harnesses, or other components are caught or tangled. Also pay extra attention to the HV battery aero shield mounting tabs.
  26. Carefully lower the powertrain table.

    ATTENTION
    While raising the vehicle, have an assistant monitor the underside of the vehicle. Ensure that no components are still connected and that there is sufficient clearance so that no components are damaged.
  27. Move the powertrain table with subframe away from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Pull on the inner halfshaft cup to confirm that the LH and RH rear drive unit halfshafts are fully seated on the rear drive unit, and that the circlip is locked into place.

    Remarque
    If the halfshaft detaches from the rear drive unit, then reinstall the halfshaft paying attention to the following:
    • Take care not to damage or displace the oil seals.
    • Make sure that the opening of the snap rings are facing towards the bottom of the drive unit.
    • Carefully push the halfshaft into the drive unit until there is an audible "click" from the halfshaft stub contacting the pinion shaft.
    • There will be a slight pulling sensation on the halfshaft as the halfshaft circlip locks into place.
    • Pull on the inner halfshaft cup to confirm that the circlip is locked into place.
  2. Move the powertrain table with subframe to under the vehicle.
  3. Carefully raise the powertrain table.

    While raising the table, have an assistant monitor the underside of the vehicle. Make sure that there is sufficient clearance so that no components are damaged.
  4. Carefully raise the powertrain table so that the rear subframe is up against the body.

    ATTENTION
    While raising the table, occasionally stop to make sure no hoses, harnesses, or other components are caught or crushed. Also pay extra attention to the HV battery aero shield mounting tabs.
  5. Install and hand-tighten the bolts (x4) that secure the rear subframe to the body (torque 140 Nm).
  6. Use a crowbar to shimmy the rear subframe with respect to the body, so that the subframe mounting bolts are centered in the tracings, and the witness marks where the subframe contacts the body align.

    Remarque
    It might be necessary to align one corner and tighten the bolt, align the opposite corner and tighten the bolt, and so on in a criss-cross pattern.
  7. Torque the bolts (x4) that secure the rear subframe to the body (torque 140 Nm).
  8. Lower the powertrain table and move it out from under the vehicle.
  9. If the drive unit was removed, refill the gearbox fluid. See Liquide de la boîte d’engrenages - petites unités d’entraînement arrière (vidange et remplissage).
  10. Install the coolant hoses to the LH and RH sides of the drive unit.
    1. Move the coolant drain cart to the RH side of the drive unit.
    2. Install the hose at the T-fitting, and then fasten the hose clamp.
    3. Remove the hose clamping tool.
    4. Move the coolant drain cart to the LH side of the drive unit and charger fitting.
    5. Remove the plugs from the charger fitting, install the hose to the fitting, and then fasten the hose clamp.
    6. Remove the hose clamping tool.
    7. Remove the drain cart from under the vehicle.
  11. Fasten the clips that secure the HV cables:

  12. Perform the following substeps on the drive unit:
    1. On the top RH side of the rear drive unit, install the ground strap to the drive unit (torque 6.5 Nm).
    2. Inspect the connector seals on the HV cables. If any are damaged, replace them.
    3. Apply P-80 emulsion to the connector seals.

      ATTENTION
      Do not apply P-80 emulsion to the HV terminals.
    4. Install the HV cables into the rear drive unit, and then install 4 new screws to secure the cables in the drive unit (torque 7 Nm).
    5. On the RH side of the drive unit, connect the logic connector.
  13. Install new O-rings (1003784-00-A or later) on the drive inverter cover and apply Silicone Lubricant (1010251-00-A) on both before installing the cover. Insert the cover at an angle to prevent damage to the O-rings. Once the left (B+) O-ring is seated, rotate the cover into position.
  14. Connect the subframe harnesses to the body harness.
    • Vehicles built through September 2014: 4 connectors at the back of the rear subframe
    • Vehicles built after September 2014: 3 connectors above the RH side of the rear undershield
  15. If equipped, install the rear skid plate to the rear subframe, and then install the screws (x2) that secure the skid plate to the subframe (torque 10 Nm).
  16. Install the subframe shear plates to the subframe, fasten the clips (x2), and then install the nut (torque 35 Nm) and screws (x3) (torque 6 Nm) that secure each shear plate to the subframe.
  17. Install the mid aero shield (voir la procédure).
  18. Connect the electrical harnesses to the LH and RH parking brake connectors and then fasten the red locking tabs to secure the connectors.

  19. Install the plastic park brake connector covers.
  20. On both sides of the vehicle, install the rear brake calipers to the rear knuckles, and then install the bolts (x2) that secure each caliper to each knuckle (torque 120 Nm).

  21. On both sides of the vehicle, install and hand-tighten the nut that secures the rear shock absorber to the rear knuckle.
  22. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake rotor to the hub.
  23. Install the hub jack adapter onto the LH rear hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  24. Use an underhoist stand to support the hub jack adapter.
  25. Measure the distance between the bottom of the quarter panel and the center of the rear axle to make sure that the rear suspension is set to ride height.
  26. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear shock absorber to the LH rear knuckle (torque 140 Nm), and then mark the bolt and nut with a paint pen.
  27. Remove the underhoist stand from underneath the LH rear suspension.
  28. Remove the lug nuts that attach the hub jack adapter, and then remove the hub jack adapter from the hub.
  29. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake rotor to the hub.
  30. Repeat step x through y for the RH side of the vehicle.
  31. Install the rear wheels. See Ensemble de roue (retrait et installation).
  32. Connect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  33. Perform a coolant air purge and top off the coolant.
    1. Open the coolant reservoir cap and fill the reservoir up to the NOM line.
    2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
    3. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Coolant air purge" into the search field, click PROC_THC_X_COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Air Purge, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

      While the routine is running, monitor the coolant reservoir and add coolant as needed.
    4. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
    5. Install the cap on the coolant reservoir.
  34. Remove the vehicle from the 2-post lift.
  35. Reportez-vous aux tableaux des exigences d’alignement pour déterminer si une vérification du parallélisme EPAS ou une vérification du parallélisme des quatre roues doit être effectuée. Large RDU

Remove

  4. Remove the rear wheels. See Ensemble de roue (retrait et installation).
  5. Raise the vehicle to working height.
  6. On both sides of the vehicle, remove the nut that secures the shock absorber to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm), but do not remove the bolt yet.
  7. On both sides of the vehicle, loosen the bolts (x2) that secure the brake caliper to the knuckle (torque 120 Nm). Remove and support the calipers.

  9. Remove the LH and RH subframe shear plates by removing the nut (torque 35 Nm), clips (x2), and screws (x3) (torque 6 Nm) that attach each shear plate to the subframe.
  10. Remove the mid aero shield panel. See Panneau - bouclier aérodynamique - central (retirer et remplacer).
  11. On both sides of the vehicle, remove the nuts (x3) that attach the mid aeroshield reinforcement.

  12. If equipped, remove the screws (x2) that secure the rear skid plate to the subframe (torque 10 Nm).
  13. Disconnect the subframe harnesses from the body harness.
    • Vehicles built through September 2014: 4 connectors at the back of the rear subframe
    • Vehicles built after September 2014: 3 connectors above the RH side of the rear undershield
  14. Perform a vehicle HV disabelement check at the rear drive unit inverter. See Vérifiez la HT au niveau de l'onduleur de l'entraînement (grand RDU uniquement).
  15. Remove and discard the 2 fasteners that secure the HV cables to the drive unit (torque 9 Nm). Do not remove the cables at this time.
  16. Release the clips that secure the HV cables:

  17. Remove the coolant hose from the LH and RH sides of the drive unit.
    1. Place a coolant drain cart under the LH side of the drive unit.
    2. Clamp the LH rear drive unit coolant hose.

    3. Remove the hose, and then plug the drive unit.

    4. Repeat these substeps on the RH side of the drive unit.

  26. Release the remaining attachments to the drive unit:
    1. On the top RH side of the drive unit, remove and discard the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the drive unit (torque 6.5 Nm).
    2. Near the ground strap bolt hole, remove the bolt that attaches the HV cable bracket to the rear drive unit (torque 6.5 Nm), and then remove the bracket from the vehicle.
    3. On both sides of the vehicle, remove the bolt that attaches the shock absorber to the knuckle (torque 140 Nm).

      If necessary, raise or lower the powertrain table to reduce tension on the joint.

    4. Pull the HV cables out of the drive unit.

      In case the HV cables are seized inside the rear drive unit and cannot be removed, cut the cables to enable subframe removal. Install a new rapid splitter while the subframe is removed. See HV Rapid Splitter Vehicle Side (Remove and Replace).
  27. Carefully lower the powertrain table.

    While raising the vehicle, have an assistant monitor the underside of the vehicle. Ensure that no components are still connected and that there is sufficient clearance so that no components are damaged.
  28. Move the powertrain table with subframe away from the vehicle.

Install

  1. Pull on the inner halfshaft cup to confirm that the LH and RH rear drive unit halfshafts are fully seated on the rear drive unit, and that the circlip is locked into place.

    • Pull on the inner halfshaft cup to confirm that the circlip is locked into place.
  2. Drive Units built before October 2014 only: Make sure that no harnesses or cable ties press into the acoustic padding upon reinstallation. Refer to TN-14-40-002, Noise Path for Motor Hum, for more information.
    1. Make sure that the electrical harness does not rest on top of either of the arches on the subframe.

      Rotating the clip that secures the harness to the subframe helps to position the harness properly.
      1 Correct: Clip rotated.
      2 Correct: Harness routed inboard of subframe.
      3 Incorrect: Harness routed on top of subframe.
    2. Replace the cable ties that secure the HV cables to the subframe. Make sure that the electrical harness is routed beneath the cable ties.
    3. Make sure that the rearmost section of the electrical harness is secured to the subframe with cable ties. The harness should extend out from the rear of the subframe as little as possible.

    4. Make sure that when securing the HV cables to the subframe, the ratchets on the cable ties do not press into the acoustic padding
  3. Move the powertrain table with subframe to under the vehicle.
  4. Carefully raise the powertrain table.

  5. Install the remaining attachments to the drive unit:
    1. Install the HV cables into the drive unit.

      After connecting the HV cables to the drive unit, reach above the drive unit and pull the cables as far forward as possible.
    2. On both sides of the vehicle, install the bolt that attaches the shock absorber to the knuckle.

    3. On the top RH side of the rear drive unit, install the HV cable bracket to the rear drive unit, install the bolt that attaches the bracket to the drive unit (torque 6.5 Nm).
    4. On the top RH side of the rear drive unit, install a new bolt to attach the ground strap to the drive unit (torque 6.5 Nm).
  6. Carefully raise the powertrain table so that the rear subframe is up against the body.

  13. Fasten the clips that secure the HV cables:

  14. Install 2 new fasteners to secure the HV cables in the rear drive unit (torque 9 Nm).

  18. Install the subframe shear plates to the subframe, fasten the clips (x2), and then install the nut (torque 35 Nm) and screws (x3) (torque 6 Nm) that secure each shear plate to the subframe.
  19. On both sides of the vehicle, install the nuts (x3) that attach the mid aeroshield reinforcement.

  20. Install the mid aero shield. See Panneau - bouclier aérodynamique - central (retirer et remplacer).
  21. Connect the electrical harnesses to the LH and RH parking brake connectors and then fasten the red locking tabs to secure the connectors.

  22. Install the plastic park brake connector covers.
  23. On both sides of the vehicle, install the rear brake calipers to the rear knuckles, and then install the bolts (x2) that secure each caliper to each knuckle (torque 120 Nm).

  24. On both sides of the vehicle, install and hand-tighten the nut that secures the rear shock absorber to the rear knuckle.
  25. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake rotor to the hub.
  26. Install the hub jack adapter onto the LH rear hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  27. Use an underhoist stand to support the hub jack adapter.
  28. Measure the distance between the top of the upper fore link to the bolt on the frame rail to make sure that the rear suspension is set to ride height.

    Distance should be 85 mm +/- 5 mm.
  29. Tighten the bolt and nut that attach the LH rear shock absorber to the LH rear knuckle (torque 140 Nm), and then mark the bolt and nut with a paint pen.
  30. Remove the underhoist stand from underneath the LH rear suspension.
  31. Remove the lug nuts that attach the hub jack adapter, and then remove the hub jack adapter from the hub.
  32. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake rotor to the hub.
  33. Repeat step 25 through 32 for the RH side of the vehicle.
  34. Install the rear wheels. See Ensemble de roue (retrait et installation).
  35. Connect 12V power. See Disconnect 12V Power.
  36. Perform a coolant air purge and top off the coolant.
    1. Open the coolant reservoir cap and fill the reservoir up to the NOM line.
    2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
    3. In Toolbox 3, click the Actions tab, type "Coolant air purge" into the search field, click PROC_THC_X_COOLANT-AIR-PURGEvia Toolbox: (link)via Service Mode: Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Coolant Air Purge, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

      While the routine is running, monitor the coolant reservoir and add coolant as needed.
    4. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
    5. Install the cap on the coolant reservoir.
  37. Remove the vehicle from the 2-post lift.
  38. Reportez-vous aux tableaux des exigences d’alignement pour déterminer si une vérification du parallélisme EPAS ou une vérification du parallélisme des quatre roues doit être effectuée.
