Brake Pads and Rotors - Front - Set

  1. Open LH front door.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.

    Set air suspension to Jack Mode, Via Controls > Service > Jack Mode, Raise lift until arms contact the lift points
  3. Remove RH front lug nut covers (x5).
  4. Loosen RH front lug nuts.

    5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
  5. Remove LH front lug nut covers (x5).
  6. Loosen LH front lug nuts.

  7. Raise vehicle partially and lower onto locks.

    Set vehicle to comfortable working height, make sure there's an audible click of the locks on both sides before lowering, otherwise vehicle may tilt to the side.
  8. Remove RH front wheel.

    5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
  9. Remove LH front wheel.

    5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
  10. Turn front wheels fully right.
  11. Remove pins and anti-rattle spring from LH front caliper.

    Remarque
    Hold spring while removing pin, Remove upper pin first, Air hammer may be required to remove stuck pins
  12. Press inner and outer brake pads out to push caliper pistons back into LH front caliper.

    Wrap a shop rag around the caliper to protect the finish if using pliers, Air hammer may be required to free stuck pads
  13. Remove brake pads from LH front caliper.

    Remarque
    Puller or air hammer may be required to free stuck pads
  14. Use hand brush and brake cleaner to clean LH front caliper pad slides and pistons.

    Remarque
    Use nylon brush on painted calipers, Allow brake cleaner to dry, replace caliper if excessive corrosion is found.
  15. Apply Silaramic lubricant to both LH front inner and outer pads on caliper pad slides.

    Remarque
    keep lubricant off pad friction material, only on backing plate.
  16. Use hand brush and brake cleaner to clean LH front caliper pins and anti-rattle spring.

    Remarque
    Replace pins and spring if there is excessive corrosion or damage to components.
  17. Install LH front inner and outer brake pads.

    Remarque
    Do not allow any lubricant to get onto friction surfaces, Clean friction surfaces with brake cleaner if necessary.
  18. Install anti-rattle spring and caliper pins for LH front caliper.

    Install lower pin first, make sure both pins are fully seated.
  19. Center front wheels.
  20. Remove bolts securing LH rear brake caliper to knuckle.

    Remarque
    2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm, Support the caliper with “S” hook.
  21. Remove LH front brake caliper from LH front knuckle assembly and hang.

    Support the caliper with “S” hook
  22. Remove bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.

    Remarque
    1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Discard patch bolt after removal.
  23. Remove brake rotor from hub and bearing assembly.
  24. Install LH front brake rotor onto hub and bearing assembly.

    Align bolt hole in rotor to hub for next step.
  25. Install bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.

    1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Install new patch bolt
  26. Remove LH front brake caliper from brake caliper S-hook.
  27. Position and install LH front brake caliper onto LH front knuckle assembly.

    2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm
  28. Install LH front wheel.

    5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Start lug nuts by hand before using power tool
  29. Turn front wheels fully to the left.
  30. Remove pins and anti-rattle spring from RH front caliper.

    Hold spring while removing pin, Remove upper pin first, Air hammer may be required to remove stuck pins
  31. Press inner and outer brake pads out to push caliper pistons back into RH front caliper.

  40. Remove the RH front brake caliper from the knuckle and hang.
  41. Remove bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.

    1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Discard patch bolt after removal
  42. Remove brake rotor from hub and bearing assembly.
  43. Install LH front brake rotor onto hub and bearing assembly.

    Align bolt hole in rotor to hub for next step
  44. Install bolt securing brake rotor to hub and bearing assembly.

    1x bolt, T45, 17 Nm, Install new patch bolt
  45. Remove the RH front brake caliper from the S-hook.
  46. Position and install RH front brake caliper onto RH front knuckle assembly.

    2x bolts, 18mm, 120 Nm
  47. Install RH front wheel.

    Remarque
    5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm, Thread nuts on by hand
  48. Lower vehicle until tires are touching ground.

    Remarque
    Raise lift off locks, then hold lock release lever to keep locks free while vehicle is lowered
  49. Torque LH front wheel.

    5x nuts, 21mm, 175 Nm
  50. Install LH front lug nut covers (x5).
  51. Torque RH front wheel.

  52. Install RH front lug nut covers (x5).
  53. Remove vehicle from lift.

    Remarque
    Lower rack arms fully and move them from under vehicle, Remove air suspension from "Jack Mode", Via Controls > Service > Jack Mode
  54. Pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure the pedal feels normal.

    Check for a short, firm travel when the brakes are applied, If the brake pedal is soft, bleed the complete system
  55. Close LH front door.
  56. Perform a road test using a series of ABS-active stops and ensure proper brake pedal feel and performance.
