Clean and Lubricate Brake Calipers

  1. Abra la puerta delantera izquierda y baje la ventanilla.
  2. Eleve y apoye el vehículo. Consulte Elevación del vehículo - Elevador de 2 columnas.
  3. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox 3 (Conexión y desconexión).
  4. Desbloquee la puerta de enlace del vehículo. Consulte Puerta de enlace (Desbloquear).
  5. In Toolbox, click the Actions tab, and then search for "EPB enter service mode".
  6. Click PROC_EPB_X_SERVICE-MODEvia Service Mode:
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ EPB Service Mode
    • Chassis ➜ Brakes ➜ EPB Service Mode
    via Service Mode Plus:Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Release / Re-Engage Emergency Parking Brakevia Toolbox:(link)    , and then select the following:
    1. EPB Selection: BOTH
    2. Action Selection: START
    3. Click Run and allow the routine to complete.
    Nota
    Chock wheel if necessary.
    Nota
    Follow the on-screen instructions if necessary.
    Nota
    Make sure the routine is successful.
  7. Remove all 4 wheel caps and loosen all the wheel nuts. See Wheel Cover - Front - LH (Remove and Install).
  8. Raise the vehicle fully.
  9. Remove the LH front wheel. See Conjunto de rueda (Desinstalación e instalación).
  10. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the knuckle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)
    Consejo
    Se recomienda utilizar las siguientes herramientas:
    • Vaso de 10 mm de cuello largo
  11. Remove the brake pad anti-rattle springs (x2) from the LH front brake caliper.
    Nota
    Release the tab, and then remove the spring from the caliper. Repeat for the remaining anti-rattle spring.
  12. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH front caliper to the knuckle, and then set the caliper aside.
    315 Nm (232.3 lbs-ft)
    Nota
    The rotor will be loose until the caliper is reinstalled. Use lug nut to secure the rotor as needed.

  13. Remove the brake pads from the LH front caliper.
  14. Clean the LH front brake pads.
    Nota
    Use a wire brush and pick as needed. Clean any debris from the central groove in the brake pad friction surface.
  15. Clean the LH front brake caliper.
    Nota
    Use a nylon brush and brake cleaner as needed. Allow 1 minute of dry time.
  16. Clean the LH front brake caliper anti-rattle springs (x2).
    Nota
    Use soapy water or brake cleaner as needed. Allow 1 minute of dry time.
  17. Remove the LH front brake rotor.
  18. Inspect the inner and outer brake rotor vents and surface for debris, and then clean the rotor as needed.
    Nota
    Make sure the rotor mating surface to the hub is clean on the inboard and outboard faces.
  19. Install the LH front brake rotor.
    Nota
    The rotor will be loose until the caliper is reinstalled.
  20. Apply an even layer of Silaramic lubricant onto both LH brake pad guide contact points.
  21. Install the brake pads (x2) into the LH front caliper.
  22. With assistance, position the LH front caliper onto the knuckle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the caliper to the knuckle.
    315 Nm (232.3 lbs-ft)
    Nota
    The rotor will be loose until the caliper is installed.

  23. Install the brake pad anti-rattle springs (x2) into the LH front brake caliper.
  24. Install the bolt that attaches the LH front brake hose bracket to the knuckle.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  25. Install the LH front wheel onto the vehicle and hand-tighten the lug nuts (x6).
  26. Remove the LH rear wheel. See Conjunto de rueda (Desinstalación e instalación).
  27. Release the locking tab, and then disconnect the EPB harness electrical connector from the LH rear brake caliper.
  28. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear brake line to upper control arm, and then release the line from the control arm.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  29. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear caliper to the bracket.
    40 Nm (29.5 lbs-ft)
    Consejo
    Se recomienda utilizar las siguientes herramientas:
    • Vaso de 14 mm
  30. Pivot the LH rear caliper upward.
  31. Remove the LH rear caliper pad return springs (x2).
    Nota
    Hold the brake pads, and then remove spring one at a time.
  32. Remove the brake pads (x2) from the LH rear caliper bracket.
  33. Use a wire brush to remove any dust or debris from the LH rear brake pads.
  34. Clean the LH rear brake caliper and brake pad guide surfaces.
    Nota
    Use a nylon brush and brake cleaner as needed. Allow 1 minute of dry time.
    Nota
    Make sure to clean both sides of the guides.
  35. Apply an even layer of Silaramic lubricant to the LH rear brake pad contact points and pad guides.
  36. Install the brake pads (x2) into the LH rear caliper bracket.
    Nota
    Make sure the pads seat correctly onto the guides.
  37. Install the LH rear caliper pad return springs (x2).
    Nota
    Hold the pads, and then install each spring one at a time.
  38. Pivot the LH rear caliper downward into position.
    Nota
    Hold the pads while pivoting to ensure correct fitment.
  39. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear caliper to the bracket.
    40 Nm (29.5 lbs-ft)

  40. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the LH rear brake caliper to the knuckle, and then use an S-hook to hang the caliper to the body.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)
    PRECAUCIÓN
    Route the caliper hose so that it does not get caught on the stabar assembly.

  41. Remove the LH rear brake rotor.
  42. Inspect the inner and outer brake rotor vents and surface for debris, and then clean the rotor as needed.
    Nota
    Make sure the rotor mating surface to the hub is clean on the inboard and outboard faces.
  43. Position the LH rear brake rotor onto the vehicle.
    Nota
    The rotor will be loose until the caliper is reinstalled.
  44. Position the LH rear brake caliper onto the knuckle, and then install the bolts (x2) that attach the caliper to the knuckle.
    150 Nm (110.6 lbs-ft)
    PRECAUCIÓN
    Route the caliper hose so that it does not get caught on the stabar assembly.

  45. Position the LH rear brake line to the upper control arm, and then install the bolt that attaches the line to the control arm.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

    • Vaso de 10 mm
  46. Connect the EPB harness electrical connector to the LH rear brake caliper, and then engage the connector lock.
  47. Install the LH rear wheel, and then install and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  48. Repeat step 9 through step 47 for the RH front and rear brakes.
  49. Lower the vehicle until the tires are touching the ground.
  50. Press brake pedal, and then select park on the UI to disable EPB service mode.
  51. Torque all the wheel nuts and install the all 4 wheel covers. See Conjunto de rueda (Desinstalación e instalación).
  52. Retire el vehículo del elevador. Consulte Elevación del vehículo - Elevador de 2 columnas.
  53. Suba la ventanilla delantera izquierda y cierre la puerta delantera izquierda.
