Remove and Clean Radiator (Heat Pump) (Maintenance)

  • 2026-04-21: Released new procedure.
  1. Open the LH front door and lower both front windows.
  2. Enable Service Mode. See Mode entretien (activer et désactiver).
  3. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Passerelle (déverrouiller).
  4. Run the routine using Service Mode or Toolbox: PROC_VCFRONT_X_START-THERMAL-FILL-DRAINvia Service Mode:
    • Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Start Thermal Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Coolant System ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Thermal ➜ Refrigerant System ➜ Start Refrigerant Fill/Drain
    via Service Mode Plus:
    • Drive Unit ➜ Front Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain
    • Drive Unit ➜ Rear Drive Unit Replacement ➜ Start Coolant Fill/Drain

  5. Raise and support the vehicle.
  6. Remove the cooling fan module. See Module de ventilateur de refroidissement (retrait et remplacement).
  7. Release the locking clips (x2) that attach the 12mm radiator to the cooling fan module, and then remove the 12mm radiator from the vehicle.
    Remarque
    Slide the 12mm radiator downwards, and then upwards to remove from the vehicle.
    Remarque
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Pliers needle nose long
  8. Use a vacuum to clean debris from both sides of the radiator.
    Remarque
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  9. Use a blow gun to clean both sides of the radiator with compressed air.
    Remarque
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  10. Release the locking tabs (x4) that attach the 21mm radiator to the cooling fan module, and then remove the 21mm radiator from the cooling fan module.
    Remarque
    Push the 21mm radiator away from the cooling fan module while releasing each locking tab.
    Remarque
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Small flat head screwdriver
  11. Use a vacuum to clean debris from both sides of the radiator.
    Remarque
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  12. Use a blow gun to clean both sides of the radiator with compressed air.
    Remarque
    Do not damage fins of radiator.
  13. Position the 21mm radiator on the cooling fan module, and then install the locking tabs (x4) that attach the 21mm radiator to the cooling fan module.
    Remarque
    Align the 21mm radiator locking tabs with the cooling fan module, and then press the 21mm radiator on the cooling fan module to engage the locking tabs.
  14. Position the 12mm radiator on the vehicle, and then install the locking clips (x2) that attach the 12mm radiator to the cooling fan module.
    Remarque
    Ensure the 12mm radiator aligning guides (x2) and locking tabs are positioned correctly, and then push the 12mm radiator downwards to engage the locking tabs.
  15. Install the cooling fan module. See Module de ventilateur de refroidissement (retrait et remplacement).
    Remarque
    After removing the coolant bottle cap, perform the cooling system vacuum refill (See Système de refroidissement (remplissage sous vide)), then return to the cooling fan module procedure to complete the remaining steps.
  16. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle. See Toolbox (connecter et déconnecter).
  17. Run the routine PROC_VC_X_RESET-RADIATOR-UA-INDEXvia Toolbox:(link)
    Remarque
    Perform this step for firmware versions develop/2026.14.3 and later.
  18. Run the routine using Service Mode or Toolbox: TEST-SELF_VCFRONT_X_THERMAL-PERFORMANCEvia Service Mode:Thermal ➜ Actions ➜ Test Thermal Performancevia Service Mode Plus:

  19. Disconnect Toolbox and remove the laptop from the vehicle.
  20. Calibrate LH and RH falcon wing doors from center display: touch Service > Calibrate Doors, then hold on Calibrate Doors until doors cycle.
  21. Turn steering wheel back to center.
  22. Exit Service Mode Plus. See Mode Entretien Plus.
  23. Raise both front windows and close the LH front door.
  24. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
