Steering Wheel

Correction code 32051802

Remove

  1. Remove driver airbag (refer to procedure).
  2. Position steering straight ahead. Mark steering wheel relative position to column.
  3. Affix tape across the clockspring to the steering wheel.

    CAUTION
    Stopping any rotation of the clockspring will prevent it being damaged which would cause an airbag fault or malfunction.
  4. Disconnect clockspring connector and maneuver harness through column.
  5. Release steering wheel nut lock tab and loosen nut but do not fully remove (torque 25 Nm).
  6. Release steering wheel from column taper.

    Warning
    The steering wheel retaining nut should not be completely removed until the steering wheel has been released from the column taper. Sudden release of the wheel may cause injury.
  7. Remove nut, lock tab and steering wheel. Collect column tension spring with wheel removed.

    Note
    The steering wheel is under tension from the column spring.
  8. Remove screws (x2) securing clockspring to steering wheel. Note the screw holes are off-set to prevent incorrect installation.

Install

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Make sure that the spring loaded pin locates in the clockspring slot when installing steering wheel.
