Bleed Procedure - System

Bleed

  1. Raise and support vehicle.

    Do not work on an incorrectly supported vehicle.

  2. Remove rear the wheels.
  3. Clean area surrounding brake fluid reservoir cap and remove cap.
  4. Using a syringe, remove brake fluid from reservoir.
  5. Refill brake fluid reservoir with new recommended brake fluid.
  6. Fit pressure bleeder adapter to reservoir ensuring a tight seal.
  7. Install pressure bleeder to reservoir adapter and fill with sufficient brake fluid to replace all fluid used during bleed procedure.
  8. Bleed brakes in sequence shown.

    CAUTION
    If the ABS modulator or brake master cylinder has been removed, or you are unable to achieve a firm brake pedal, the system will need to be bled in conjunction with using the diagnostic tool.
  9. Remove cover from caliper bleed nipple.
  10. Install brake bleed container to bleed nipple on caliper.

    Note
    Place suitable absorbent material around the affected area to absorb any possible fluid spillage.
  11. Loosen bleed nipple 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
  12. Tighten bleed nipple once a flow of clean, air-free fluid is purged into container.
  13. Remove bleed container.
  14. Clean any brake fluid from caliper.
  15. Repeat bleed procedure for each caliper in sequence.
  16. Once brakes have been bled, remove pressure bleeder and adapter in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

    CAUTION
    If brake fluid spills on the paintwork, wash the area immediately with clean water.
  17. Check and top-up brake fluid level if required.
  18. Install brake fluid reservoir cap.
  19. Install the wheels (torque 105 Nm).
  20. Turn starter switch to ON position and pump brake pedal several times to make sure of a short, firm travel when brakes are applied.
