Cooling System - Drain and Refill
Correction code 46010105
Drain
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the right rear wheel.
- Inhibit the APS via the touchscreen.
- Make sure that the coolant reservoir cap is properly sealed on the coolant reservoir bottle.
-
Place a coolant catch basin beneath the coolant manifold.
NoteMake sure that the basin can hold at least 2 gallons (7.5 L).
-
Set up a drain tube with one end in the coolant catch basin and have the other end ready for the next step.
NoteA clear tube works best to make sure of visibility of coolant flow.
-
Install adapter 1001020 (Coolant Reservoir Adapter) to coolant reservoir.
- Pinch off the lower coolant hose on the manifold with pinch pliers.
- Remove the adjacent coolant hose from the manifold and connect a drain tube in its place.
-
Attach the Battery cooling system pressure tester (1008787-00-A) to the lower hose.
NoteMake sure that the ball valve is in the off position and that the pressure regulator is set to 0.
-
While watching the digital pressure gauge, slowly increase the regulator pressure to 5 PSI (0.35 bar).
NoteUse the digital readout because it is more accurate than the analog one.
-
Remove the pinch pliers from the lower coolant hose. Pressure decreases quickly as air begins to enter the battery pack.
NoteA humming or howling sound might occur while draining. This does not indicate a problem.
- Slowly increase the regulator pressure to 9 PSI (0.62 bar).
-
Connect shop air to the pressure tester.
CAUTIONExceeding 9 PSI (0.62 bar) might damage the battery cooling system.
- Allow the system to drain under pressure for 10 minutes. Approximately 6.5L of coolant drains by using this method.
- Slowly reduce the regulator pressure to 0.
Refill
Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:
- Refill and bleed cooling system (refer to procedure).
