Curtain Airbag - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace)

Make sure LV power has been disconnected for at least 2 minutes before disconnecting the electrical harness from Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components, such as Restraint Control Module, sensors, airbags, etc. Failure to do so can result in unintended safety system behaviors. Remove

  1. Remove the LH front primary body seal. See Primary Body Seal - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  3. Remove the LH sun visor. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Repeat step 1 through step 3 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  5. Move the 1st row seats forward.

    Adjust the seat back if needed.
  6. Remove the LH rear primary body seal. See Primary Body Seal - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  7. Remove the LH B-pillar lower trim. See Trim - B-Pillar - Lower - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  8. Release the clip that attaches the LH B-pillar lower air duct to the body.
  9. Release the clips (x5) that attach the LH B-pillar upper trim assembly to the vehicle, and then move the trim aside.

    Note
    Pull the bottom of the upper B-pillar inwards, and then pull the top to release the remaining clips.
  10. Repeat step 6 and step 9 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  11. Move the 2nd row seats forward.

    Adjust the seat back if needed.
  12. Open the liftgate.
  13. Fold the 3rd row seatback down.

    Protect the seat back upholstery from any potential scratch or damage.
  14. Disconnect the LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  15. Release the clips (x14), locator pins (x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the LH trunk side trim to the body.

    Note
    This is to aid the removal of the C-pillar upper trim.
  16. Release the clips (x10), locator pins (x4), and tabs (x2) that attach the LH C-pillar upper trim to the body, and then disconnect the seat dump switch connector and release the charging port release cable.

    Note
    Do not pull the trim too far from the vehicle, as it is still attached by the connector and charging port release cable.
  17. Release the clips (x14), locator pins (x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the RH trunk side trim to the body.

    Note
    This is to aid the removal of the C-pillar upper trim.
  18. Release the clips (x10), locator pins (x4), and tabs (x3) that attach the RH C-pillar upper trim to the body.
  19. Remove the rear headliner. See Rear Headliner (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  20. Push to open the LH rear coat hook.
  21. Release the tab to open the LH rear coat hook bolt cover.
  22. Remove the bolt that attaches the LH rear coat hook to the headliner.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 socket
  23. Release the tab to partially release the headliner from the body, and then remove the bolt that attaches the headliner to the body.

  24. Repeat step 20 through step 23 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  25. Release the clips (x7) that attach the front headliner harness to the LH A-pillar, and then disconnect the front connector.
  26. Release the clip that attaches the front headliner harness to the RH C-pillar, and then disconnect the rear connector.
  27. Release the clips, tabs, magnets and tether that attach the front headliner to the body, and then lower the front headliner down onto the seats.

    Note
    There are tethers on both sides of the rear section of the front headliner. Depress the tabs (x2) of the tether to release it.
  28. Disconnect the electrical harness from the LH curtain airbag connector.

    Lift the white tabs to release the connector.
  29. Remove the bolts (x6) that attach the LH curtain air bag to the body.

    Do not use impact tools.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  30. Release the clips (x9) that attach the LH curtain air bag to the side rail, and pull the air bag forward to disengage the hooks (x3), and then remove the airbag from the vehicle.

    If any clips are damaged, the airbag must be replaced.

    Warning
    The airbag should always be handled by the igniter; the igniter should never be left dangling.

Install

  1. Install the hooks (x3) to install the LH curtain airbag to the side rail, and then carefully fasten the clips (x9) that attach the airbag to the side rail.

    Make sure that the airbag hooks are fully seated to the vehicle.

    If any clips are damaged, the airbag must be replaced.
  2. Install the bolts (x6) that attach the LH curtain air bag to the body.
    8 Nm (5.9 lbs-ft)

    Do not use impact tools.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  3. Connect the electrical harness to the LH curtain airbag connector.

    Note
    Make sure that the connector is properly engaged.
  4. With assistance, install the clips, tabs, magnets and tether that attach the front headliner to the body.

    Ensure that the seal covers the interior trim panel.
  5. Connect the front connector, and then install the clips (x7) that attach the front headliner harness to the LH A-pillar.
  6. Connect the rear connector, and then install the clip that attaches the front headliner harness to the RH C-pillar.
  7. Install the bolt that attaches the headliner to the body, and then install the tab that attaches the headliner to the body.
    2 Nm (1.5 lbs-ft)

    • Torx T30 socket
  8. Install the bolt that attaches the LH rear coat hook to the headliner.
    2.5 Nm (1.8 lbs-ft)

    • Torx T25 socket
  9. Engage the tab to close the LH rear coat hook bolt cover.
  10. Push to close the LH rear coat hook.
  11. Repeat step 7 through step 10 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  12. Install the rear headliner. See Rear Headliner (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  13. Install the clips (x10), locator pins (x4), and tabs (x3) that attach the RH C-pillar upper trim to the body.

    While installing the upper trim, make sure that the air vent is properly installed.

    After installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
  14. Install the clips (x14), locator pins (x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the RH trunk side trim to the body.

    After installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
  15. Connect the seat dump switch connector and install the charging port release cable, and then install the clips, locator pins, and tabs that attach the LH C-pillar upper trim to the body.

    While installing the upper trim, make sure that the air vent is properly installed.

    Note
    After installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
  16. Install the clips (x14), locator pins (x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the LH trunk side trim to the body.

    After installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
  17. Connect the LV power. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  18. Move the 3rd seatback back to its original position.
  19. Close the liftgate.
  20. Move the 2nd row seats back to their original positions.
  21. Align location pins (x2) to the slots on the body, and then secure the clips (x5) that attach the LH upper B-pillar trim assembly to the vehicle.

    Lower the seat belt slider to align it with the B-pillar panel.

    Make sure that the air vent is properly installed.
  22. Install the clip that attaches the LH B-pillar lower air duct to the body.
  23. Install the LH B-pillar lower trim. See Trim - B-Pillar - Lower - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the LH rear primary body seal. See Primary Body Seal - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  25. Repeat step 21 through step 24 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  26. Move the 1st row seats back to their original positions.
  27. Install the LH sun visor. See Sun Visor - LH (Remove and Replace).
  28. Install the LH upper A-pillar trim. See Trim - A-Pillar - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace).
  29. Install the LH front primary body seal. See Primary Body Seal - Front - LH (Remove and Replace).
  30. Repeat step 27 through step 29 on the RH side of the vehicle.
  31. Raise all four windows and close all four doors.
