Remove

  1. Set up the AC machine.
  2. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  3. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Actions > Start Thermal Fill/Drain, enter 1 in the Coolant fill and Refrigerant fill fields, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    This routine has a 5-hour limit. After 5 hours, the routine needs to be performed again.
  4. Perform Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure. See Vehicle HV Disablement Procedure (Model YL) (Maintenance).

    Keep the LV battery disconnected.
  5. Remove the front aero shield. See Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  7. Recover the A/C refrigerant. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) (Restore).

    Make sure there is no overpressure in the A/C system before performing the following steps. Failure to do so may result in damage to components and/or personal injury.

    HFO-R1234yf and R134a are considered hazardous and, if handled incorrectly, can cause serious injury. Suitable personal protective equipment, consisting of face and eye protection, safety glasses, face shield, heat-proof gloves, chemical resistant gloves, rubber boots and apron or waterproof overall must be worn when carrying out operations on the air conditioning system.
  8. Remove A/C machine hoses from the vehicle.
  9. Carefully depress the Schrader valves (x2) to level out any pressure difference between the A/C system pressure and the actual ambient atmospheric pressure.

    Make sure to depress both Schrader valves. Failure to do so may result in injury.
  10. Remove the nuts (x2) that attach the low side and high side pipes to the compressor.

  11. Seal the LP (Low Pressure) and HP (High Pressure) ports using masking tape to prevent debris ingress and oil leakage.
  12. Install the A/C flush adapters onto the supermanifold to compressor A/C line assembly.

    Note
    Install the flush adapters onto the suction and discharge the lines on compressor side. Leave the seal washers on A/C manifold line. Use 13mm nuts from compressor to secure the flush adapters.
  13. Connect the A/C machine hoses to A/C flush adapters.
  14. On the AC machine touchscreen, select Menu > Flush Kit, and enter 25 mins run time and then follow the machine guide to start the flush, and then allow the process to complete.

    Minimum of 3200g of refrigerant is needed in tank to run the System Flush procedure.

    System Flush procedure runs for approximately 90 minutes. The machine will perform multiple flush cycles.
  15. Disconnect the A/C machine hoses from the A/C flush adapters.
  16. Remove the A/C flush adapters.

  17. Remove the fresh intake duct. See Duct - Air Intake (Remove and Replace).
  18. Remove the frunk reinforcement beam. See Beam - Reinforcement - Frunk (Remove and Replace).

    It is not necessary to separate the isolation brackets from the frunk reinforcement beam.
  19. Place a fluid catcher underneath the front of the vehicle.
  20. Remove the coolant bottle cap.

  21. Release the spring clip, disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the supermanifold, and then plug the hose and supermanifold.
  22. Release the spring clip, disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the supermanifold, and then plug the hose and supermanifold.
  23. Release the spring clip, disconnect the front drive unit return hose from the supermanifold, and then plug the hose and supermanifold.
  24. Release the clip that attaches the radiator inlet hose to the compressor bracket.
  25. Disconnect the battery supply hose sensor connector.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  26. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor on the powertrain supply hose, near the coolant bottle.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  27. Release the spring clip, and then remove the chiller to battery hose from the supermanifold, and then plug the hose and supermanifold.

  28. Release the spring clip, disconnect the powertrain supply hose from the supermanifold, and then plug the hose and supermanifold.
  29. Release the spring clip, disconnect the HV battery return hose from the supermanifold, and then plug the hose and supermanifold.

  30. Remove the LV battery. See LV Battery (Remove and Install).
  31. Use a clip pry tool to release the clips (x4) that attach the coolant hose to the A/C compressor bracket.
  32. Release the connector locking tab, and disconnect the HVIL connector near the LH front strut tower, and then release the clips.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  33. Release the connector locking tab, then disconnect the A/C logic electrical connector from the A/C compressor.

    DO NOT push down on the red locking tab. Pull the tab away from the connector until the connector is unlocked, and then continue pulling the main body of the connector to fully disconnect it.
  34. Use a clip pry tool to release the retaining clip that attaches the A/C compressor logic harness to the A/C compressor HV harness bracket.
  35. Put on HV insulating gloves and leather outer gloves before continuing this procedure.
  36. Remove the bolt that attaches the A/C compressor HV harness bracket to the A/C compressor.

  37. Disconnect the HV harness electrical connector from the A/C compressor.
  38. Release the tab and clips (x4) that attaches the HV harness to the A/C compressor, and set it aside.
  39. Remove HV insulating gloves and leather outer gloves.
  40. Release the clip that attaches the supermanifold harness to the front body controller module.
  41. Disconnect the thermal harness from the front body controller module connector.
  42. Remove the bolt that attaches the ground strap to the A/C compressor.

  49. Remove the bolts (x2) that attach the compressor and bracket to the shock tower brace.

  50. Remove the bolts (x3) that attach the A/C compressor bracket to the A/C compressor, and then remove the bracket from the compressor.

  51. Release the buttons that attach the NVH acoustic cover to the compressor, and then remove the cover from the compressor.
  52. Use a digital scale to weigh the removed compressor and record its weight. This is considered the "wet weight."

    The amount of oil in the old compressor is equal to the weighed weight of the compressor minus the dry weight of the compressor.
  53. Add oil to the compressor.

Install

  1. Replace the seal washers (x5) on the supermanifold to HVAC A/C line assembly on supermanifold side.

  2. Replace the seal washers (x5) on the supermanifold to HVAC A/C line assembly on the HVAC side.

  3. Position the supermanifold to HVAC A/C line on the supermanifold, and hand-tighten the nut that attaches the supermanifold to HVAC A/C line to the supermanifold.
  4. Position the supermanifold assembly to the shock tower beam, and hand-tighten the bolts (x2) that attach the supermanifold to the shock tower brace.
  5. Install the shock tower beam together with the supermanifold and A/C compressor to the vehicle.

    2 technicians are required for this step. Mind the connectors and AC lines. If desiccant was exposed to air for more than 20 minutes, it needs to be replaced.
  6. Loosely install the LH and RH bolts (x6) that attach the shock tower brace to the body.
  7. Torque the LH and RH outer bolts (x2) that attach the shock tower brace to the body.

  23. Route the HV harness to its original position, and then install the clips (x4) that attach the harness to the shock tower brace.
  24. Install the tab that attaches the HV harness to the A/C compressor.
  25. Connect the HV harness electrical connector to the A/C compressor.
  26. Install the bolt that attaches the A/C compressor HV harness bracket to the A/C compressor.

  27. Remove HV insulating gloves and leather outer gloves.
  28. Install the retaining clip that attaches the A/C compressor logic harness to the A/C compressor HV harness bracket.
  29. Connect the A/C compressor logic electrical connector to the A/C compressor, and then engage the locking tab.

    Push the red locking tab into the connector to engage the locking mechanism. DO NOT push down or pull up on the red locking tab.
  30. Connect the HVIL connector near the LH front strut tower, engage the locking tab, and then install the clip.

  31. Remove the plugs, immediately connect the HV battery return hose to the supermanifold, and then fasten the clip.

  35. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor on the chiller to battery hose, near the coolant bottle.
  36. Install the clips (x4) that attach the coolant hose to the A/C compressor bracket.
  37. Remove the plugs, immediately connect the front drive unit powertrain return hose to the supermanifold, and then fasten the clip.

    Perform a push-pull test to verify that the hose is fully seated.
  38. Remove the plugs from the supermanifold and radiator outlet hose, immediately connect the radiator outlet hose to the supermanifold, and then fasten the clip.

  39. Remove the plugs from the supermanifold and radiator inlet hose, immediately connect the radiator inlet hose to the supermanifold, and then fasten the clip.

  40. Fasten the clip that attaches the radiator inlet hose to the compressor bracket.
  41. Install the frunk reinforcement beam, See Beam - Reinforcement - Frunk (Remove and Replace).
  42. Install LV power. See LV Battery (Remove and Install).
  43. Connect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  44. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  45. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Actions > Start Thermal Fill/Drain, enter 1 for Coolant fill and Refrigerant fill fields, click Run, and allow the routine to complete.

  46. Disconnect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  47. Perform the vacuum leak test and oil injection, and A/C refrigerant recharge. See A/C Refrigerant (Recovery and Recharge) (Restore).
  48. Perform a cooling system vacuum refill. See Cooling System - Vacuum Refill (Test/Adjust).
  49. Remove the fluid catcher from underneath the front of the vehicle.
  50. Connect the LV battery. See LV Power (Disconnect and Connect) (Modify).
  51. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  52. On the touchscreen, tap the Service Mode "wrench" (at the bottom of the touchscreen UI), and then tap Thermal > Actions > Stop Thermal Fill/Drain > Run, and allow the routine to complete.
  53. Tap Thermal > Coolant System > Coolant Purge Start > Run, and allow the routine to complete.

    Note
    Make sure vehicle is not in Drive, shifting the vehicle into Drive will stop this routine. The test will last approximately 10 mins. The test will vary speeds from 3500-6500 RPM (idle speed = ~1500 RPM) and actuate the valve between series and parallel. If speed hovers at 7000 RPM, it indicates the pump is air locked, perform the vacuum fill again. Continue to add coolant and purge until the coolant level reaches between the NOM and MAX Lines on the bottle.
  54. Install the front aero shield. See Aero Shield - Front (Remove and Replace).
  55. Install the underhood storage unit. See Underhood Storage Unit (Remove and Replace).
  56. Inspect the coolant level and top off as necessary, and then install the coolant bottle cap.

  57. Tap Thermal > Refrigerant System > Run Commission Heat Pump > Run, and allow the routine to complete.

  60. Install the HEPA filter assembly. See HEPA And Carbon Filters (Remove and Replace).
  61. Remove the vehicle from the lift.
