Warning
Wear appropriate personal
protective equipment (PPE) including cut-resistant gloves and safety glasses when performing
this procedure.
CAUTION
New glass components
(windshield, roof, door, and fixed glass) must be inspected before installation to meet
Tesla’s internal standards of quality. Perform the inspection described in Pre-Installation Glass Inspection before beginning this
procedure.
Remove
- Remove the LH trough trim. See Trim - Trough - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).

Fold the 3rd row seatback down.
NoteProtect the seat back upholstery from any potential scratch or damage.
- Remove the LH C-pillar lower trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).

Release the clips (x14), locator pins
(x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the LH trunk side trim to the body.
NoteThis is to aid the removal of the C-pillar upper trim.

Release the clips (x10), locator pins
(x4), and tabs (x2) that attach the LH C-pillar upper trim to the body, and then
disconnect the seat dump switch connector and release the charging port release cable.
NoteDo not pull the trim too far from the vehicle, as it is still attached by the connector and charging port release cable.
-
Break the clip on the LH rear quarter
glass.
NoteTake care not to let the clip fall into the body sheet metal internal cavity.
-
Release the clips (x2) that attach the
LH rear NVH trim to the body.
-
Position a towel on top of the LH 2nd
row retractor.
NoteDuring glass cutting, take care not to let the lower-left glass clip fall into the vehicle body sheet metal interlayer.

Release the rubber seal from the LH
rear quarter glass, release the clip that attaches the seal to the glass, and then
remove the seal from the vehicle.

Clean the exterior area of the LH rear
quarter body glass.
NoteAllow at least one minute to dry.

Apply masking tape around the LH rear
quarter body glass to protect the body and paint.
-
Using a plastic trim tool, pry out the
rear edge of the LH quarter brightwork from the LH rear quarter body glass, and then
work across the glass to remove the trim from the vehicle.
CAUTIONUse caution with the clip that attaches the rear quarter brightwork to the LH upper body side brightwork.

Using a retractable blade knife, cut
down the rubber seal around the LH rear quarter body glass to allow greater access when
removing the glass.
WarningAlways wear cut-resistant gloves when using cutting tools.NoteThis action will avoid causing damage to the body and keep the wire from getting stuck in the seal when cutting the LH rear quarter body glass.

Set up a pair of T-handles with
adequate square wire.
-
Wrap the square wire around the rear
edge of the LH rear quarter body glass between the body the seal.
-
Cut the LH rear quarter body glass
from the body, and then remove glass from the vehicle.
TIpUse a sawing motion to cut through the urethane.
-
Remove the towel on top of the LH 2nd
row retractor and the clip.
-
Remove the upper left corner clip of
the glass from the C pillar sheet metal gap.
NoteRemove the clip via the illustrated hole using tweezers. If the clip cannot be accessed directly, use a compressed air gun to redirect it to an accessible area for removal.

Clean the remaining urethane from the
body using a winged scraper set.
NoteEnsure remaining glass adhesive is 1mm or less in thickness.
Install
-
Remove the masking tape from the body
around the rear quarter glass area.
-
Clean the urethane path of the LH rear
quarter glass with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe. Allow the area to dry for at least 1
minute.

Clean the body around the urethane
path with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipe. Allow the area to dry for at least 1
minute.
-
Apply primer to the LH rear quarter
glass, following the urethane path. Allow primer to dry for at least 2 minute before
continuing.
NoteIf using the Sika 258 sealant, use Sika special activator Pro as shown in the orange item in the picture.

Apply primer to the urethane path and
any areas where the paint was damaged during the removal of the LH rear quarter body
glass. Allow primer to dry for at least 2 minute before continuing.

Prepare the caulking gun and
urethane.
NoteThe urethane opening must be 8 mm wide and 13 mm tall.
-
Apply urethane to the LH rear quarter
glass, following the primer path.
NoteTo avoid future NVH issues, pinch the ends of the urethane together, and make sure there are no gaps in the urethane.

Position the LH rear quarter body
glass over the vehicle and slide the rear quarter brightwork clip into the upper
brightwork.
NoteMake sure the locating posts are aligned with the holes on the body, and then install the rear quarter body glass onto the body by applying pressure from the rear locating post, and then work forward.

Secure the LH rear quarter body glass
with tape while the urethane is curing.

Install the clips (x2) that attach the
LH rear NVH trim to the body.
-
Connect the seat dump switch connector
and install the charging port release cable, and then install the clips, locator pins,
and tabs that attach the LH C-pillar upper trim to the body.
NoteWhile installing the upper trim, make sure that the air vent is properly installed.NoteAfter installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.

Install the clips (x14), locator pins
(x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the LH trunk side trim to the body.
NoteAfter installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
- Install the LH C-pillar lower trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).

Move the 3rd row seatback back to its
original position.
- Install the LH trough trim. See Trim - Trough - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).

Remove the masking tape after the
urethane has cured.
CAUTIONDo not drive the vehicle until the adhesive manufacturer’s recommended minimum drive-away time has passed. Dow Betaseal Express has a drive-away time of 1 hour minimum in temperatures of 0˚F (-18˚C) or warmer. If necessary, leave the tape applying pressure to the glass on the vehicle and advise the customer that they can remove it after 24 hours. Additionally, advise the customer that they should avoid high driving speeds and speed bumps for the next 24 hours.
