Shell - Seat Back - 3rd Row - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace)

 Reuse

Remove

  1. Remove the 3rd row seat back complete. See Seat Back - Complete - 3rd Row (Model YL) (Remove and Install).
  2. With assistance, position the 3rd row seatback complete onto a padded surface.

    Note
    Prevent the seat assembly from tipping over. Use a ballast bag and any additional support as needed.
  3. Remove the 3rd row LH seat outboard and inboard guide locks. See Guide Lock - Headrest - 3rd Row Seat - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the 3rd row LH seat back complete escutcheon. See Seat Escutcheon - 3rd Row - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove and discard the bolt that attaches the 3rd row LH seat belt to the seat frame complete.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T50 socket
  6. Disconnect the 3rd row LH recline motor connector.
  7. Disconnect the 3rd row LH seat back heat pad connector.
  8. Remove the clip that secures the 3rd row LH seat back heat pad connector.
  9. Disconnect the 3rd row LH seat back sensor connector.
  10. Remove the clip that secures the 3rd row LH seat back sensor connector.
  11. Partially release the 3rd row LH seat back trim retainers (x5) from the seat back frame.
  12. Disconnect the 3rd row LH head side air bag connector.

    Note
    Press down the white tabs on both sides to release the connector.
  13. Release the clips (x4) and the hook that attach the 3rd row LH seat frame harness to the seat back shell assembly.
  14. Partially release the 3rd row LH seat back right side trim retainers (x2) from the seat back frame.
  15. Remove the push clips (x4) that attach the 3rd row LH seat back shell assembly to the frame.
  16. Remove and discard the nuts (x2) that attach the 3rd row LH seat head side air bag to the seat back frame.

    Do not use impact tool to remove the nuts.

    • 10 mm deep socket
  17. Remove the bolt that attaches the 3rd row LH seat head side air bag to the seat back frame.

    Do not use impact tool to remove the bolt.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
  18. Carefully pull the 3rd row LH seat head side air bag away from the seat frame.

    CAUTION
    Do not use sharp tools to pry, as this may cause damage.
  19. Release the hooks (x3) that attach the 3rd row LH seat back assembly to the frame, and then lift the seat back upward and tilt the upper part of the seat back forward.
  20. Remove the 3rd row LH seat belt through the seat back assembly.
  21. Remove the 3rd row LH seat back assembly from the frame.
  22. Release the 3rd row LH seat back trim retainers (x12) from the seat back shell.

    Note
    Pull the seat back trim retainers down and then away from the upholstery support tabs to release.
  23. Remove the harness from the slot clip, and then remove the side airbag chute from the seat back shell. Then remove the 3rd row LH seat back shell from the foam trim assembly.

    Warning
    Do not remove the airbag from the airbag chute. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.

    CAUTION
    Do not use sharp tools to prevent damage.

Install

  1. Position the 3rd row LH seat back shell to the foam trim assembly, and then install the airbag chute to the shell and secure the harness into the slot clip.

    Ensure the side air bag is properly installed. The airbag is configured/folded in a specific manner and will need to be replaced if it is dropped, altered or manipulated in any way.
  2. Install the 3rd row LH seat back trim retainers (x12) to the seat back shell.
  3. Position the 3rd row LH seat back assembly to the frame.
  4. Install the 3rd row LH seat belt through the seat back assembly.

    Note
    Ensure the seat belt is not twisted.
  5. Install the lower section of the seat back into position, and then push the upper part inward. Then install the hooks (x3) that attach the 3rd row LH seat back assembly to the frame.

    Ensure the airbag strap is not pinched.
  6. Position the 3rd row LH seat head side air bag to the seat frame.

    CAUTION
    Do not use sharp tools to pry, as this may cause damage.

    Note
    Make sure that the head side airbag mounting studs extend out of the holes of the chute.
  7. Install the bolt that attaches the 3rd row LH seat head side air bag to the seat back frame.
    5.4 Nm (4.0 lbs-ft)

  8. Install new nuts (x2) that attach the 3rd row LH seat head side air bag to the seat back frame.
    5.4 Nm (4.0 lbs-ft)

    Do not use impact tool to remove the nuts.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm deep socket
  9. Install the push clips (x4) that attach the 3rd row LH seat back shell assembly to the frame.
  10. Install the 3rd row LH seat back right side trim retainers (x2) to the seat back frame.
  11. Install the clips (x4) and the hook that attach the 3rd row LH seat frame harness to the seat back shell assembly.
  12. Connect the 3rd row LH head side air bag connector.
  13. Secure the 3rd row LH seat back trim retainers (x5) to the seat back frame.
  14. Install the clip that secures the 3rd row LH seat back sensor connector.
  15. Connect the 3rd row LH seat back sensor connector.
  16. Install the clip that secures the 3rd row LH seat back heat pad connector.
  17. Connect the 3rd row LH seat back heat pad connector.
  18. Connect the 3rd row LH recline motor connector.
  19. Install a new bolt that attaches the 3rd row LH seat belt to the seat frame complete.
    43 Nm (31.7 lbs-ft)

  20. Install the 3rd row LH seat back complete escutcheon. See Seat Escutcheon - 3rd Row - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  21. Install the 3rd row LH seat outboard and inboard guide locks. See Guide Lock - Headrest - 3rd Row Seat - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the 3rd row seat back complete. See Seat Back - Complete - 3rd Row (Model YL) (Remove and Install).
