Liftgate (Model Y L) (Remove and Install)

Remove

  1. Remove the rear headliner panel. See Rear Headliner (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the RH C-pillar lower trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  3. Release the clips (x14), locator pins (x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the RH trunk side trim to the body.

    Note
    This is to aid the removal of the C-pillar upper trim.
  4. Release the clips (x10), locator pins (x4), and tabs (x3) that attach the RH C-pillar upper trim to the body.
  5. Push open the RH coat hook.
  6. Open the RH coat hook screw cover.
  7. Remove the RH coat hook screw.

    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • SKT, 1/4" DR, HEX BIT, T25 TORX
  8. Release the clips (x4), tabs (x3), location pin, and tether that attach the RH rear section headliner to the body.

    Note
    Depress the tabs (x2) to release the tether from the body side.
  9. Remove the liftgate harness ground bolt.

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Socket 1/4in Dr. 6pt. Std. x 10mm
  10. Disengage the locking tabs to disconnect the liftgate harness connectors (x3).
  11. Release the RH rear liftgate harness grommet from the body.
  12. Apply tape at the liftgate and liftgate hinge location for alignment during installation.
  13. With assistance, support the liftgate.
  14. Release the clip that attaches the LH upper end of the liftgate power strut to the LH upper liftgate lid ball stud.

    Note
    Lay the power strut down on the door jamb.
  15. Release the clip that attaches the RH upper end of the liftgate power strut to the RH upper liftgate lid ball stud.

  16. With assistance, remove the liftgate support.
  17. Remove the bolts (x4) that attach the liftgate to the vehicle

Install

  1. Install the bolts (x4) that attach the liftgate to the vehicle

    Note
    Torque at later step.
  2. With assistance, support the liftgate.
  3. Install the clip that attaches the LH upper end of the liftgate power strut to the LH upper liftgate lid ball stud.

    CAUTION
    Make sure that the clips that attach the power strut ends to the trunk are securely attached to avoid the strut to become loose and damaged.
  4. Install the clip that attaches the RH upper end of the liftgate power strut to the RH upper liftgate lid ball stud.

    CAUTION
    Make sure that the clips that attach the power strut ends to the trunk are securely attached to avoid the strut to become loose and damaged.
  5. With assistance, remove the liftgate support.
  6. Insert the liftgate harness into the body and install the grommet.
  7. Engage the locking tabs to connect the liftgate harness connectors (x3).
  8. Install the liftgate harness ground bolt.
    10 Nm (7.4 lbs-ft)

  9. Align the location pin, secure the clips (x4), tabs (x3), and tether that attach the RH rear section headliner to the body.

    Note
    Ensure the tether is secured to the body and the seal covers the interior trim panel.
  10. Install the RH coat hook screw.
    2.5 Nm (1.8 lbs-ft)

    • SKT, 1/4" DR, HEX BIT, T25 TORX
  11. Close the RH coat hook screw cover.
  12. Push close the RH coat hook.
  13. Secure the clips (x10), locator pins (x4), and tabs (x3) that attach the RH C-pillar upper trim to the body.

    Note
    While installing the upper trim, make sure that the air vent is properly installed.

    Note
    After installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
  14. Install the clips (x14), locator pins (x2), and tabs (x2) that attach the RH trunk side trim to the body.

    After installation, make sure that the seal fully covers the edge of the trim.
  15. Install the RH C-pillar lower trim. See Trim - C-Pillar - Lower - LH (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  16. Install the rear headliner panel. See Rear Headliner (Model YL) (Remove and Replace).
  17. Close the liftgate to check gap/flush. With assistance, perform adjustment as necessary to the hinge bolts and trunk striker.

  18. Torque the bolts (x4) that attach the liftgate to the vehicle.
    30 Nm (22.1 lbs-ft)

    TIp
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • WRENCH RATCHET, FLEX HEAD, 13MM
  19. Apply touch-up paint to the bolts securing the liftgate hinges.
    1. Shake the touch-up paint before applying.
    2. Apply the first coat to the bolts.
    3. Allow 20 minutes for it to dry before apply a second coat if needed.
    4. Remove the masking tape used to mark the position of the liftgate hinge to the liftgate assembly.
  20. Place the vehicle in Service Mode by using the touchscreen. See Service Mode.
  21. Unlock the vehicle gateway. See Gateway (Unlock).
  22. Perform the following routine using Service Mode or Toolbox (see 0005 - Service Modes): PROC_DAS_X_CLEAR-CALIBRATIONvia Service Mode:
    • Driver Assist ➜ Cameras ➜ Clear Camera Calibration
    • Driver Assist ➜ Driverless ➜ Clear Calibration
