Badge - Tesla Chinese (Model Y L) (Remove and Replace)

Equipment:
  • 1453028-00-A Badge Removal Kit
  • 1049517-00-A Seam Roller, Silicone, 5"
  • 2249790-00-A Rear Left Badge Jig, MY_L

Note
The badge is not reusable due to the required positioning accuracy. If the badge is removed for any reason, it must be replaced with a new one.

Remove

  1. Prepare the badge removal tool (1453028-00-A) with approximately 24 inches/60 centimeters of monofilament line.
  2. Tie slip knots at both ends of the fishing line and attach them each to the center groove of a handle.
  3. Move the badge removal tool in a sawing motion to separate the Chinese Tesla badge from the liftgate lid.
  4. Use IPA wipes to clean all adhesive residue and debris from the liftgate surface.

Replace

  1. Adjust the liftgate to an appropriate height, and then install the jig into position on the liftgate.

    Note
    The jig lower and left edge should be aligned with the liftgate edge. Hold on to the jig during the installation process to avoid the jig falling.
  2. Peel the adhesive backing from the Chinese Tesla badge, align the holes of the protective film with the datums on the jig (2249790-00-A), then press the badge onto the liftgate.
  3. Remove the protective film from the badge, and then remove the jig from the vehicle.

    Do not discard the protective film, it will be used again in the next step.
  4. Close the liftgate, place the protective film over the badge, use a pressure roller (1049517-00-A) to fully adhere the badge, and then remove the protective film.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage the badge during the rolling process.
  5. Use an IPA wipe to clean the badge and the area around the badge.

    Note
    Make sure that all edges of the badge are securely affixed to the liftgate surface.
