Hinge Pillar (Section)
Repair Information
- Review all collision repair general practices and safety documentation and wear the appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) before beginning this procedure.
- Properly mount the vehicle on a frame bench when performing this procedure.

When ordering parts, refer to the Parts Catalog and enter the VIN of the vehicle being repaired to find the correct parts (and the part numbers) for the vehicle. Alternatively, use the search function in the Parts Catalog to find a specific part for the vehicle.
Repair Procedure
- Remove the A-Pillar to Shotgun Reinforcement.
- Remove the necessary portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly to expose the underlying component being replaced.
- Remove the A-Pillar to Shotgun Reinforcement from the new Hinge Pillar Assembly.
- Cut the original component at the indicated locations.
- Remove the original component.
- Remove any remaining adhesive from the mating surfaces of the vehicle.
- Cut the first new Hinge Pillar Panel (M3 ASY PNL HINGE PILLAR) as shown to create a backing plate.

Cut the backing plate down
the middle to create 2 sections, then fit both sections of the backing plate
in place and tack weld the backing plate sections together.
NoteDo not fully weld the backing plate sections together while the sections are on the vehicle.WarningFailure to follow all welding safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, could result in serious injury or property damage. GMA weld the backing plate
sections together to create the backing plate.

- Put the backing plate into position and clamp it into place.
- Cut the second new Hinge Pillar Assembly on the cut line shown.

Prepare for installation.
or Structural Countersunk Rivets, 6.5 mmCAUTIONMake sure to locate the forward-most structural countersunk rivet inboard enough so that it does not conflict with the fasteners used to install the A-Pillar to Shotgun Reinforcement in a later step.or High Strength Structural Rivets, 6.5 mmNoteThe center of all rivets in the bottom row of structural rivets must be at the indicated height from the lower edge of the new component, as shown below.
- E = 15 mm
- Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
- Install the new component or components.

Perform resistance spot
welding.

- Install the portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly that was removed to expose the component being replaced.
- Install the A-Pillar to Shotgun Reinforcement.
- Install the fasteners as indicated.
- Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
