Repair Procedure

  1. Cut the floor panel at the indicated locations, and bend it back to create a flap (shown in red) large enough to allow removal of the spot weld (under the flap).

  2. Remove the outer portion of the original component.

    When drilling out spot welds, use a drill bit that creates a hole correctly sized for the fastener that will replace the spot weld.
  3. Remove the inner portion of the original component.

  4. Prepare for installation.

    A red X indicates a location where a factory-installed fastener is not being replaced.

    Return the floor panel flap (shown in red) to its original location before installing the Structural Bulb rivet circled in red.
  5. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.

    Apply a small amount of structural adhesive to the upper side of the floor panel flap created earlier.
  6. Bend the floor panel flap (shown in red) to its original location.
  7. Install the new component or components.

    Return the floor panel flap (shown in red) to its original location before installing the Structural Bulb rivet circled in red.
  8. Perform resistance spot welding.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
  9. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
