Note
The number of rivets to be installed depends on the number of spot welds removed.
When ordering parts, refer to the Parts Catalog and enter the VIN of the vehicle being repaired to find the correct parts (and the part numbers) for the vehicle. Alternatively, use the search function in the Parts Catalog to find a specific part for the vehicle.

Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the necessary portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly to expose the underlying component being replaced.
  2. Remove the original component.

    Note
    If laser welds are present, use a belt sander or grinding wheel to grind through the laser weld on the component being removed. When removing laser welds, grind only through the thickness of the component being removed.
  3. Prepare for installation.

    If laser welds were used to secure the B-Pillar Outer, replace each laser weld with 3 installation spot welds.

    Note
    Install the bottom row of rivets with the center of each rivet at the indicated height from the bottom edge of the component.
    • A = 15 mm
  4. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  5. Install the new component or components.
  6. Perform resistance spot welding.

    Failure to follow all welding safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, could result in serious injury or property damage. Only technicians who have completed Tesla’s approved welding training are authorized to weld structural components on Tesla vehicles.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
  7. Install the portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly that was removed to expose the component being replaced.
  8. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
