Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the necessary portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly to expose the underlying component being replaced.
  2. Remove the Roof Rail Extension.
  3. Remove the foam dam and save it for reinstallation at a later step.
  4. Remove the original component.

    Note
    An S38 Flow Form Rivet will be installed in the location circled in red when the appropriate section of the Body Side Outer Assembly is reinstalled.
  5. Prepare for installation.

    Installation Spot Weld

    Structural Rivet, 6.5 mm Short

    Countersunk Rivet, 4.8 mm Short

    Note
    The countersunk rivets are installed on either side of the hole where a factory SPR was removed.
  6. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  7. Install the new component or components.
  8. Perform resistance spot welding.

    Failure to follow all welding safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, could result in serious injury or property damage. Only technicians who have completed Tesla’s approved welding training are authorized to weld structural components on Tesla vehicles.

    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
  9. Reinstall the Foam Dam removed in a previous step.
  10. Install the Roof Rail Extension.
  11. Install the portion of the Body Side Outer Assembly that was removed to expose the component being replaced.
  12. Install the fastener as indicated.
  13. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
