Do not stack Collision Repair correction codes unless explicitly told to do so. Depending on the damage to the vehicle, additional repairs may be required.

Repair Procedure

  1. Remove the Insulator - Wheelhouse - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  2. Remove the MXP2 BODY - Bumper and Fascia - Rear Bumper Fascia - Rear Wing Bracket - LH (RR).
  3. Remove the Taillight Assembly - LH (Remove and Replace).
  4. Remove the Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  5. Remove the Garnish - Fender - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  6. Remove the Glass - Rear Quarter Window - LH (Remove and Install).
  7. Remove the Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  8. Remove the Charge Port (Type 2) (Remove and Replace).
  9. Remove the Safety Cap - Charge Port to HV Battery (China) (Remove and Replace).
  10. Remove the Charge Port (NACS) (Remove and Replace).
  11. Remove the Bracket - C-Pillar - Lower Zone - LH (Remove and Replace).
  12. Remove the following components from the service part to make the new component.
    • 1 - C-Pillar Lower Extension
    • 2 - Rear Quarter Outer Lower
  13. Remove the original component.

    Note
    When drilling out spot welds, use a drill bit that creates a hole correctly sized for the fastener that will replace the spot weld.

  14. Prepare for installation.
    Note
    A red X indicates a location where a factory-installed fastener is not being replaced. Secure this location using structural adhesive only.

  15. Apply structural adhesive to the mating surfaces on the vehicle and the new component or components.
  16. Install the new component or components.
  17. Perform GMA welding.

    Warning
    Failure to follow all welding safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, could result in serious injury or property damage. Only technicians who have completed Tesla’s approved welding training are authorized to weld structural components on Tesla vehicles.
    Warning
    To maintain vehicle crash integrity, use only approved welding wire and an approved GMA welder to perform GMA welding on Tesla vehicles. Refer to Approved Gas Metal Arc (GMA) Welders and Welding Wire for information on approved GMA welders and welding wire.
    CAUTION
    Do not weld on a Tesla vehicle before performing the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure (refer to the vehicle-specific Service Manual for more information on the Vehicle Electrical Isolation Procedure). Welding on a Tesla vehicle with an energized high or low voltage system might damage vehicle components.
    Note
    Before GMA welding, a test weld using material of the same gauge and type should be performed to make sure that the welding equipment settings produce a satisfactory joint.
  18. Fill the gap between the Quarter Outer panel and the Quarter Outer Lower panel (indicated in red) with urethane.
  19. Once the urethane has cured, use seam sealer to completely fill the seam.
  20. Perform any necessary post-repair operations.
  21. Install the Bracket - C-Pillar - Lower Zone - LH (Remove and Replace).
  22. Install the Charge Port (NACS) (Remove and Replace).
  23. Install the Safety Cap - Charge Port to HV Battery (China) (Remove and Replace).
  24. Install the Charge Port (Type 2) (Remove and Replace).
  25. Install the Wheel Arch Liner - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  26. Install the Glass - Rear Quarter Window - LH (Remove and Install).
  27. Install the Garnish - Fender - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
  28. Install the Panel - Aero Shield - Rear (Remove and Replace).
  29. Install the Taillight Assembly - LH (Remove and Replace).
  30. Install the MXP2 BODY - Bumper and Fascia - Rear Bumper Fascia - Rear Wing Bracket - LH (RR).
  31. Install the Insulator - Wheelhouse - Rear - LH (Remove and Replace).
