Door Glass - Rear - Upper - LH (Remove and Replace)

CAUTION
New glass components (windshield, roof, door, and fixed glass) must be inspected before installation to meet Tesla’s internal standards of quality. Perform the inspection described in Pre-Installation Glass Inspection before beginning this procedure.

Removal

  1. Open the LH rear door and fully lower the LH rear window.
  2. Release V-clips (x9) to remove the LH falcon door lower garnish.
    Note
    Replace any damaged or missing V-clips. Take care not to damage the door trim panel during removal.
  3. Use a plastic trim tool to release the clips (x17), tabs (x2) and the connector that secure the LH upper falcon door trim.
    Note
    Numbers of clips/tabs/connectors may vary on different vehicles.
  4. Remove the bolts, the gasket bolts and the clip that secure the LH falcon rear upper bracket.
    Note
    The number of the fasteners may vary.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 bit

  5. Remove the bolts, the gasket bolts and the clip that secure the LH falcon front upper bracket.
    Note
    The number of the fasteners may vary.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 bit

  6. Remove the bolts (x7) that secure the LH upper outer falcon door middle trim.
    Note
    The number of fasteners may vary.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 bit
  7. Use a plastic trim tool to release the clips (x4) that secure the LH upper gap hider trim.
  8. Partially lower the LH falcon door.
  9. With assistance, remove the nuts (x10) that secure the LH falcon door upper class, and then remove the LH falcon door upper glass.
    Note
    Loosen sequence is outside to inside from 1 to 10 as shown in the image.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket

Installation

Note
Check the build date on the door manufacturing label or use the VIN to look up the build date to determine the correct part to order.
  • For the vehicles built before 2016.02.27: Order the -S2- coded door glass. Be cautious that the tint of glass after -S2-K is different from that of glass prior to -S2-K.
  • For the vehicles built after 2016.02.27: Order the -00- coded door glass.
  1. With assistance, position the LH falcon door upper glass to body, and hand tighten nuts (x10).
    Note
    Add washers at the corners of glass to ensure the flatness between glass and body. The number of washers need to be added may vary. Torque the nuts at later step.
  2. Torque the nuts (x10) that secure the LH falcon door upper class.
    5 Nm (3.7 lbs-ft)
    Note
    Tightening sequence is inside to outside from 1 to 10 as shown in the image.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • 10 mm socket
  3. Open the LH rear door.
  4. Install the clips (x4) that secure the LH upper gap hider trim.
  5. Install the bolts (x7) that secure the LH upper outer falcon door middle trim.
    3 Nm (2.2 lbs-ft)
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Note
    The number of fasteners may vary.
    Note
    Torque the gasket bolts to 4 Nm and the other bolts to 3 Nm.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 Bit
  6. Install the bolts, the gasket bolts and the clip that secure the LH falcon front upper bracket.
    2.5 Nm (1.8 lbs-ft)
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Note
    The number of the fasteners may vary.
    Note
    Torque the gasket bolts to 4 Nm and the other bolts to 2.5 Nm.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 bit

  7. Install the bolts, the gasket bolts and the clip that secure the LH falcon rear upper bracket.
    2.5 Nm (1.8 lbs-ft)
    4 Nm (2.9 lbs-ft)
    Note
    The number of the fasteners may vary.
    Note
    Torque the gasket bolts to 4 Nm and the other bolts to 2.5 Nm.
    Tip
    Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:
    • Torx T25 bit

  8. Install the clips (x17), tabs (x2) and the connector that secure the LH upper falcon door trim.
    Note
    Numbers of clips/tabs/connectors may vary on different vehicles.
  9. Install the V-clips (x9) that secure the LH falcon door lower garnish.
  10. Raise the LH rear window and close the LH rear door.
